Hitchhiking

I learned from reading my driving rules that hitchhiking is illegal. Isn’t this supposed to be the most American activity ever?

What will I discover next? That road trips are against the law?

  1. Hitchhiking laws differ by state. Some states ban it entirely, others place restrictions on it, and still others have laws which cover pedestrians in general, not just hitchhikers.

  2. Back in the day — it was the “Age of Aquarius” — everybody under 30 hitchhiked. Fast forward. These days, it’s too dangerous. In my part of the U.S. you rarely see anyone hitchhiking. Progress, anyone?

    1. It was much more dangerous then than it is now. The media just has people more thoroughly brainwashed into never stepping outside their living room.
