Using “because” as a preposition was mildly amusing when the trend first started but now it has become too precious and affected.
I only hope I don’t have to battle this fad in student essays.
But of course! It is the only preposition which can take an adverb as its object, as in “because why?”

I don’t think it’s being used as a preposition since it can precede (usually truncated) clauses. Part of it’s real (albeit limited) charm was that it suggested a brain hiccup or that the speaker was flummoxed at having to say the obvious.
I agree that it’s entered the negative returns phase though and about 98 % of its usage needs to stop with all possible speed.

Oh ,my GOD. I completely agree. I am SO sick of the “because” trend. It always sounds so smarmy and reactionary.
