So I just discovered that a book titled History of the Nation and Spanish Nationalism was published in Spain last month. It’s 1536 pages long. Costs EUR 37,05. Of course, none of the libraries in our sharing system have it. And even if they did, what’s the point of checking out a book of this length, especially if you plan to use it for years to come?
I have resisted every temptation this holiday season but this is one to which I am about to succumb.
Falling. . . falling. . . fallen.
Does it come in a Kindle edition?

No, there is no digital edition. It wouldn’t work for me anyway because this is for research and I need page numbers.
Besides, I’ve started collecting a small library of books on this subject and I want to have them all in print versions.

And if you think that’s bad, wait ’til you see the despatch fees …
Free delivery from Amazon only applies in-country, not for international delivery.
Patience, grasshoppah — you realise there are only three libraries globally within WorldCat/OCLC that show this book being available?

If you’re in the States, perhaps a trip to Gettysburg College is in order?
Or you could just wait a bit longer. 🙂
At least you’re not trying to find books that are considered antiquities — you know you’ve reached an extreme point when you’re not sure whether flying to the library with the book is actually cheaper than finding your own personal copy through an antiquities dealer …

This seems like a collection of previously published articles, or fragments of monographs.

Something similar to this happened to me earlier this month and I spent $91 on a really important book for my field that while a few libraries in the region (states plural) had, I got, and it got recalled after 5 days… so I just bought a copy. Happy Holidays to me! (It’s a really really great reference book, too)

Let’s stop feeling guilty about doing something to advance our scholarly development! It will be easier for me to do if I have company. 🙂

Ah, but I’m a grad student. That was my food budget for the month. (Also… totally worth it! I can eat pasta and frozen veggies for a month)
