Donetsk

My cousin’s husband was shot by terrorists in Donetsk but survived the wound. Another family friend was beaten and robbed by the terrorists. Neither man had participated in the hostilities in any capacity.

In case this has already been forgotten and a fresh round of idiotic questions is about to crop up: I still don’t like these people. And I still don’t want to see them dead or harmed in any way. And if for you emigrating means wishing death on everybody who remained in your country of origin, there is something seriously wrong with you.

  1. What are the Russian hired “separatists” even trying to do anymore? Their revival (and by ‘revival’ I mean completely made up bullshit) of Novorossija seems to have come a cropper and everywhere besides this one small region* seems to be thoroughly over any “pro-Russian” sentiment.

Obviously part of the plan was a land corridor to Crimea since the Russian putsch is inconvenienced by not having direct land contact but that seems dead in the water.

Is Putin just trying to shit in Ukraine’s cornflakes and playing to the deadbeat parasite home crowd that likes him? Does he think that this small area not connected to anything and filled with non-productive people is realy worth it?

*and am I correct that your analysis is that while in other parts of Ukraine the people had enough mettle and/or were organized enough to resist the Russians the people in the Donetsk/Lugansk area due to massive local passivity and social backwardness didn’t throw them out in time?

      – Yes, good question. I don’t think they even know any longer. They are sending panicky letters to Russia, posting endless screeds online on how they have been betrayed. The whole thing has devolved into looting and pretty much nothing else at this point.

“Obviously part of the plan was a land corridor to Crimea since the Russian putsch is inconvenienced by not having direct land contact but that seems dead in the water.”

      – Exactly. But the resistance in Odessa and other areas was so immediate and strong that this plan failed within just a couple of weeks.

      – My guess is that this is the reason he is not officially invading: he doesn’t really want the Donbass region. Taking it over means investing enormous amounts of money into it with zero return. This region was always an enormous drain on Ukraine’s budget and there is a lot of talk in Ukraine about “Ok, why the hell are we not letting these people just to go away and be Russia’s problem from now on?”

      – Exactly. This is what the region has been like traditionally and nothing was done to change it since 1991. It has gotten worse, that’s all. And the funniest thing is that this is a traditionally Ukrainian-speaking region. As opposed to the 100% Russian-speaking Kharkiv that squeezed out Russian agitators in a fast and furious way.
