Degeneracy

500,000 are marching in France to protest against gayness. A formerly great culture has degenerated to a point where it’s doing nothing but stinking up the world.

  1. \\ A formerly great culture has degenerated to a point where it’s doing nothing but stinking up the world.

Why do you think it’s the entire culture? America and Israel also have many homophobes, religious fundamentalists, people who are against gender equality, etc.

Have you found anything about the reasons for this degeneration? Since when has it started? Before or after the big immigration? I don’t know anything about French history after WW2. Has France built itself after WW2 and then degenerated, or has it never succeeded after WW2?

    1. I don’t know, I’m not a great specialist on France but whenever I go to a conference, there is always a professor there who has escaped form France and is eager to work absolutely anywhere but there because intellectually the place is dead. They had a great moment of intellectual flourishing back in the early 1980s but something happened after that and now France is back to being the country of irate convenience store owners.

      – The US has its freaks, of course, who doesn’t? But it has so much more besides the freaks. France, however, hasn’t produced anything intellectually in the last 30 years.

Has Israel produced anything? I think Spanish studies don’t exist here, but English culture studies seem to be developed.

          – Interesting question. I haven’t met any scholars or read any scholarship coming out of Israel, so I don’t know.

        What about Germany?

Who produces the most? I suppose, USA has the 1st place worldwide, but who is the best in Europe?

        1. Spain, Germany, the UK are doing great. Actually, everybody is doing great except France. I meet scholars from all over – Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia, Netherlands, UK, Germany, Canada, obviously Spain, Latin America. Things are only worse than in France in Japan. Everywhere else, intellectually, is doing just fine.
