The Germanwings Tragedy

Gosh, people, did you hear that the co-pilot of the Germanwings flight seems to have crashed the plane on purpose? What was your very first thought when you hear that?

And did you hear that some freaks were posting disgusting messages, saying that the Catalan victims pf the crash deserved to die?

That’s some horrible shit right there.

      1. The whole thing! This was the first time I heard both parts, and that was the first thought that popped into my head before “Oh my God.” Then I Googled for more information about the first part and had more thoughts similar to my first and second thoughts.

Why in the world would anyone say the Catalan passengers deserved to die? They did nothing wrong.

    1. I was asking about a thought, not a feeling, though. The reason I ask is that I heard this news while I was with a friend. My immediate reaction was “Muslim?” while his was “Putin?”

Nobody wants to confess these thoughts in public, of course. But it is an important part of personal growth.

      1. I heard it on Romanian tv so thoughts like Muslim or Putin didn’t have any time to form since if that were the case the tv’d have been shouting it. First kinda coherent thought was something along “fuck you for taking others with you, suicides shouldn’t hurt innocent others”. Not sure what this says about me (or my personal growth) except a reminder that quite a bit of my suicidal ideation was influenced by feeling myself a burden to others.

  1. First thought (yesterday): terrorism. Today’s thought (not ruled out by the Marseille investigator): suicide (with insane disregard for the lives of others).

  2. I was thinking suicide/terrorism equal odds (and if terrorism about 5/6 chances islamic). Horses before zebras as they say.

Now, after a post at a blog you probably wouldn’t like* I’m thinking relatively late onset schizophrenia which fits the data I know of in ways that depression doesn’t.

    1. We all know how much I like including a wide variety of blogs in my blogroll. So I obviously added this fellow as well. There is nothing sadder, in the world of blogging, than an ideologically uniform blogroll. 🙂

  3. My first thought was “Terrorism?” And I didn’t even think of suicide. I don’t really know if people committing suicide are interested in taking other people with them. I could be totally wrong, though.

  4. My first thought was disbelief. When I heard the pilot locked the other pilot out of the cockpit, I thought murder suicide. It would not surprise me if we find out that the pilot had a family member on board or killed a family member or an ex before boarding the plane.

  5. Now I’m changing my mind. The latest evidence points toward this being a product of narcissistic rage (they’re not calling it that but that’s what it looks like).

I wouldn’t be surprised if this doesn’t fundamentally change people’s attitudes toward airline pilots. Technology has made airline travel so safe that being killed by someone in the cockpit is now one of the biggest dangers. Expect to see a push for more automated systems with less human input.

    1. I find it hard to believe the mental illness theory because how is it possible that nobody noticed anything at all? If the guy’s this crazy, somebody would have noticed something.

  6. Meanwhile a popular Russian online media outlet Lenta.ru, admittedly indirectly, via “featured blogs”, is offering the following interpretation of the plane crash in Germany:
“Nine out of ten Germans with whom we’ve discussed this issue believe that this is “just another warning from our friends and partners from behind the ocean” – Из 10 немцев, с которыми я сегодня говорил на эту тему, девять предположили, что авиакатастрофа – это очередное “предупреждение” от коллег и партнеров из-за океана.
