Recommendations

I’ve just got to reblog this from the Shakesville blog:

Has someone ever recommended something to you, or said they just know you’ll love something (a movie, or a song, or a book, or whatever), and once you actually get a look at it, you’re slightly offended that they thought you’d like it?

Yes! And do you know what it was?

The Shakesville blog!

I’m still wondering what it is that people saw in me to think I’d love it.

  1. Pressumably it’s because you vocally self-identify as feminist and a lot of people who do like shakesville. Also, check your thin privilege!

      1. Nope, if you’re not a death-fat you still have thin privilege. Educate yourself shit lord.

(that’s not even a joke btw, according to people who use the term “thin privilege” you’ve got thing privilege, just less than someone who’s thinner)

        1. Ah, so as long as anybody fatter exists, one has thin privilege. So if one weighs 500 lbs, they have thin privilege because there are people who weigh 600 lbs.

Makes total sense. In a really insane universe.

  2. Perhaps you’d enjoy the fodder for blog posts?

So much anxiety and control in one space.

Also I will observe that the women who go on the most about thin privelige often feel that if it weren’t for thin privelige they’d be treated as masters (mistresses) of the universe. I definitely got this impression about Shakesville despite her disclaimers, which irritated me.

    1. People who are really happy with their weight have no need to repeat that they are happy with it so often. I’m happy with the shape of my nose, for instance. But how many posts did I dedicate to that happiness?

      1. But your poll at the top of the page doesn’t include a “Current satisfaction with shape of nose” option. If you included it, maybe it would be a popular choice!

  3. I made a few extremely neutral posts at Shakesvilles, but the first more political one (after one of the successive deflations of the rape porn case) got me banned.

    Yeah me!
