Too Old

Look no further than the latest example of egregious Hollywood sexism. Indie darling Maggie Gyllenhaal recently told The Wrap that although she’s only 37 she was deemed “too old” to play the love interest of a 55-year-old man

That’s not sexist but simply realistic. 37 is the age when female sexuality becomes explosive. A 55-year-old man, in the vast majority of cases, has no prayer in hell of satisfying her needs. He absolutely needs somebody 15 years younger to be more in tune for his a lot less exuberant sexuality.

  1. No, it’s not that. They’re just using the “1/2 his age plus seven” as the lower bound of acceptable female love interest age.
Besides wasn’t Viagra and Cialis supposed to make this issue moot for older men? She’s the right age for “female companion” in those commercials.
It’s actually funny for Hollywood because George Clooney is about that age (51) and is married to a 37 year old international human rights lawyer.

    1. Yeah, I don’t think that Hollywood producers make these particular considerations about sexuality. They rarely pair older women with younger man, for example. They just want the hot, young babe to be the eyecandy.

      • Healthy people get attracted to chemistry. And you just can’t cheat that. 🙂

      1. Walter White has chemistry, but we’re not supposed to enjoy that kind … 🙂

[does the maths and concludes that “half my age minus one” was more fun]

  2. Amy Schumer addressed this issue. Male actors can be bankable until spiders are crawling out of them. Sally Field went from playing the girlfriend to playing the mother in the blink of an eye.

      1. I took it as an exaggeration as to how decrepit male actors can be and still be bankable as characters with love lives (zombies and revenants don’t carry movies…yet) , not a Rule 34 glimpse into Amy Schumer’s psyche. The baby lambs disturb me more. :p
