The whole post is great, not just the quote. I was part of the movement at my university  when it first started but it kind of fizzled out for the reasons the linked author analyzes very well.

So who do you think is worse, Scott Walker or Ted Cruz? I see Ted Cruz make the scary lizard – like movements with his head and decide he’s the worst. But then Scott Walker emits some new crazy sounds, and I feel he’s the worst. So I’m torn.

After a conversation with the banker this morning (“So you are on vacation? So you don’t work right now? So you do work? So you are not on vacation? Are you getting paid? So you are on vacation?”), I realized how profoundly weird it is it to work 8-hour days without getting paid for it. I just never thought about it this way before.

Since we are talking about getting paid, I got a 10% salary raise because of my tenure and promotion. And overall, my salary grew by $14,000 since I first came here 6 years ago. But compared to my salary back at Cornell (the Visiting Prof position), it only grew by $6,000.

Sarah Palin ‘ s daughter Bristol is pregnant out of wedlock. Again. This is after she made over a quarter of a million dollars for her lectures on the importance of abstinence.

Nobody knows who the father is this time. There are two very public possibilities.

Moral of the story: people who listen to abstinence lectures are stupid.

People say that Americans are crazy about dogs but Spain’s Minister of Internal Affairs got into trouble for transporting his dog Lola alone on an airplane that belongs to the ministry. Spain is still suffering from the economic crisis, and the idea of a minister using public funds to shuttle his pooch around isn’t making anybody very happy.

Spain’s former president José María Aznar said that the BDS movement has as its goal “emptying the country of Jews.” It’s just funny to me how a political and ideological heir to the Franco regime has become all Zionist all of a sudden.

Protests have been going on in Armenia. What nobody is reporting, though, is that the protests were initially against the price of electricity going up but gradually shifted towards “Russia, go away!” 

Resentment against the Russian military bases in Armenia has been brewing since a Russian soldier slaughtered an entire Armenian family a few months ago, and the response of the Russian authorities was very indifferent. Armenians are a nation that experienced a genocide that is still not recognized everywhere in the world. Seeing an Armenian family slaughtered and nobody acknowledging it brings up very bad memories for Armenians.

The Russian media have temporarily switched from “the evil Ukrainians with tails and horns” to “the evil Armenians with tails and horns.”

The protests will probably not lead anywhere this time, but they are a reminder that all of Russia’s neighbors feel threatened and exhausted from Russia’s unending pressure and aggression.

I know this will not interest anybody because there is no way to make this about the US, but it’s still important to report. And just give it time, I’m sure our patriots will soon invent some CIA-backed Snowden-confirmed hugely-unconvincing-yet-still-inescapable argument as to why Armenians are to be condemned and Putin’s behind is to be sucked.

People who believe that forgiveness is somehow better than a refusal to forgive have such a broken down mechanism of self-preservation that it’s scary.

In reality, forgiveness doesn’t exist. If you are truly over something, you’ll just forget about it and there won’t be anything to forgive. And if you are not over it, then forcing yourself into a show of forgiveness will only push the hurt so deep inside that it will have no choice but pop out as a symptom of some illness.
