Hillary’s Disapproval Ratings

Of course, Hillary’s disapproval ratings have soared. She made a horrible impression during that CNN interview and she can’t manage to look even remotely sincere to save her life.

Voters mostly don’t understand or care to understand what politicians are saying. They react to a visual and not to an audio. Trump looks sincere. Hillary looks fake. I understand she can’t summon charisma out of nowhere but she’s got to be working with psychologists who can teach her how not to annoy people.

The good news is that Jeb comes off as flabby, dithering, weak, and also insincere. At least, when his brother talked, you could see that he actually really believed the idiocies he was spouting. Jeb, on the other hand, doesn’t sound like he believes what he’s saying.

  1. I am clearly in the minority here but I find Hillary charming. I think she seems fun and like somone who could make me laugh. I clearly wouldn’t vote for her based on that. But I do find her likable. I don’t know what that says about me. 🙂

Yes. The received wisdom among political strategists these days is that elections are decided by Low Information Voters (LIVs) who vote based on name recognition hence dynastic politics i.e. Bush and Clinton in America and Justin Trudeau in Canada. I think that the non committed mushy middle is disappearing due to increasing polarization of the electorate due to boutique media micro casting and the alienation of voters from the economic status quo.

An election held today in Canada would elect the first federal nominally socialist government and my impression is that the momentum seems to be building towards an NDP majority in the coming October election. If you consider this to be unlikely then think back to last May when the Alberta electorate threw out a 44 year conservative majority and installed a majority NDP government. This does not mean that Canadians have become Internationale singing comrades but rather the three main political parties have shifted to the right, Conservatives are in right wing crazy land, the Liberals have positioned themselves as conservative – lite and the NDP is firmly ensconced on previous liberal polity territory.

Would an NDP win in October with the creation of a “socialist” government in America’s northern neighbor legitimize Bernie Sander’s primary presidential campaign? Bernie is the first serious American lefty to run a presidential campaign since Eugene Debs in the early part of the twentieth century.

    1. I love Bernie but it’s clear that the Republicans want him to win the nomination as much as we want Trump to run as independent. Bernie can’t win the election. He’s a one-issue candidate. And it’s a massively important issue. But still, it’s a single issue.

I’m not following the Canadian electoral prospects as closely, so thanks for your perspective! I was sure that Conservatives were going to win again but I’m a bit distanced, so what do I know.

        No. Two examples:

        1) Harper wants to abolish the Senate because of the myriad financial scandals of some members. He doesn’t mention that these members are conservative political hacks which he personally vetted and appointed.

        2) Harper’s government passed Bill C-51 designated the Anti-terrorism bill which is a judicial travesty. It creates a new legal category of anticipatory guilt. Some critics have suggested that any Muslim could be arrested under this law due to the fact that their faith predisposes them to embrace radical Islam at sometime in the indeterminate future.

        1. Harper’s government also passed a bill which puts dual citizens (or even people who COULD get dual citizenship, like the children of immigrants who were born in Canada and have solely Canadian citizenship and don’t speak the language of their parents’ country and have never visited it) at risk of losing their citizenship if they’re suspected of terrorism. Which includes me because of my dual citizenship with the United States and Canada and my involvement with the Idle No More movement.

        2. The question is how many Canadians will like this. Or disregard it in favor of the really amazing economy (judging by Quebec and in comparison with other countries). In the Quebec economy, at least, it’s still the crazy 1990s.

  3. I took a test which said I agree 98% with Sanders and 81% with HRC. This suggests that despite my disapproval of her hawkish views, she is more to my liking than I realize.

  4. who in their right mind could possibly support Clinton. She is a liar at all times with 0 integrity. Wall street owns the Clintons. She will make the country much worse should enough blind foolish people actually vote for the monster. If you are a working American then you know that The Dems, Obama, Clinton etc… are giving away our country. They have made it so easy to be on welfare, ignore laws, and have the middle class pay for it. Let alone their lack of willingness to properly deal with immigration particularly as it relates to radical muslims. Our government has no way to properly weed out the bad and therefore you block them all. Just good common sense. If you want total destruction in your country vote dem/Hillary/Bernie. They will almost guarantee more mass killings in America and all the deprivation of our basic rights they intend to contimue to infringe on all the gun laws in the world won’t help. Criminals don’t abide by laws. What our people thinking, are Clinton supporters just plain ignorant or do they all just have a death wish of our nation. Please all you Clinton/Bernie lovers help save the country and vote TRUMP to make America great again. Send Hillary to jail sending the right message that all the Clinton riches don’t allow her to live above the law. Donald Trump will be the best our country has seen in many years. GO President Trump!

    1. It’s a bit strange to concentrate on Hillary’s “riches” and especially on Bernie’s when you support the billionaire Trump.

Who are they giving it to, in your opinion?
