Do we really need another Republican debate? Are things still not clear for somebody?
I can’t promise I’ll watch very faithfully but I’ll have the TV on, and I’ll post interesting observations if I have them. Feel free to comment or vent about the insanity of such a long electoral cycle.
8:09 – the debate was on mute but then I turned on the sound and. . . heard Rubio roll his darned boring line about his mother, the maid AGAIN. It’s like he’s got nothing else at all to say, ever.
8:14 – Cruz talks about “the plight of working women.” Where do these antideluvian reptilians come from?
8:23 – Rubio believes that H1B immigrants can be substituted with Americans who get vocational training in high schools. What an irredeemable idiot.
8:26 – even Trump is more informed on H1B than Rubio.
8:27 – Rubio is now pouting over the media’s love of Hillary. What a whiny little Momma’s boy.
8:46 – why does Rubio keep yakking so much in this debate? Is he the next great hope of the GOP? Because if so, then oh, Lordy.
8:48 – Trump wants his employees to bring guns to work because ISIS. Reason has left the building. Go home, folks, you’ve lost this round already.
8:52 – Fiorina is a very stupid woman. Did she get any education at all?
What a disappointing cast of characters. Nobody seems to inhabit reality.

The point of such a question during a job interview is mild workplace bullying. The candidate begins to squirm, trying to come up with an answer, and you enjoy seeing them feel like an idiot.

At least this debate will be relatively short, since CNBC caved in to Trump’s and Carson’s demand for a time limit.

The length of the election cycle is in the same category of issues as campaign finance reform, disclosure of advertising sponsors, and truth in advertising. Theodore Roosevelt argued that business money should be barred from politics; think anybody except Sanders would say that today? The public is complacent, and most politicians are content to line their pockets, so nothing has been done to fix an obvious, corrupt mess.

Nobody who expects to have a chance of getting elected — which Sanders doesn’t. (The ungrammatical dependent clause refers to his chances, not his expectations).

Yes. I agree with the Supreme Court that contributing money to the political process is protected free speech, and this right shouldn’t be limited.
A “super Political Action Committee” is an organization that accepts donations from individuals, corporations, and unions and spends the money in support of a political party or in ads for or against specific candidates. The PAC can’t give money directly to any candidate.
The “Citizens United” decision removed the cap that individuals could contribute (it was $2,500), and also allowed corporations and unions to make donations.

The first fraud comes in treating corporations as people and assigning them the same rights that a human has. That’s a fiction that’s gone too far.
The second fraud comes in taking a very narrow definition of campaign contribution. If I write a check for a candidate, that’s a contribution. If I fund a million dollar ad campaign for the benefit of the same candidate, that’s not a contribution and I can set up a front so that no one really knows who funded the campaign. That’s how the Kochs work.
If we can’t get rid of PACs, we should be able to levy income tax on every dollar they suck up. Now that would help with the deficit and the economy.

I agree: Tax them at the rate that an intelligent, pro-business capitalist government should tax already-taxed secondary income like capital gains, dividends, and inheritance — at ZERO percent.

If it’s already taxed, then it’s not inheritance. If transferred money isn’t taxed, then salaries or business profits can’t be taxed either.

Hey, salaries are wages. Inheritance is CHARITY to one’s heirs. The U.S. tax code has different rules that specifically encourage opening your heart and donating to charity.
