And. . . another nanny just flaked out on me in almost the exact same way. I’m starting to realize that there is a sort of a regional phenomenon going on: women in their 50s and 60s who don’t want and don’t need to work and who pass the time going to interviews, getting to know people, hanging out with them, having fun.
Both flaked out nannies, by the way, are pretty insistent about wanting to hang out with me socially. Creepiness.
Should I give younger women a chance instead?

I don’t think age should be a consideration. There are diligent people who need work in all age groups. Right now, you need someone who can be nurturing. In the near future, you will need someone with patience and energy who can keep up with the antics of Klara as she begins to crawl and then walk. Be flexible.

Thing is, I work with people under 25. And let me tell you. . . I’m not sure I’d leave a toy bunny in their care, let alone a live one.

I should have known that these women didn’t need to work when I saw their cars. The cars are huge and very new. It’s my simple-mindedness and my tendency to take everything at face value that made me disregard the clear evidence they weren’t going to work. One of the ladies was wearing a good-sized emerald on her finger.
