An Ad Gently Satirizing Trump Banned in the US

I have no idea why this very inoffensive ad that gently satirizes Trump has been banned from American networks but apparently it has.

  1. “Banned” seems like an odd word choice. Commercial networks chose not to accept ad money to air it, probably because they feel the money they can get for airing it isn’t worth what they could lose if consumers or other advertisers got pissed off. US commercial networks tend to be very conservative, no?

  2. Trump coverage has boosted the Nielsen ratings and ad rates of these major networks (because of all of these older people tuning going “Yay! or WTF!” to his every asinine utterance). Also they’re hoping for/getting sweet superPAC ad dollars from 3rd party orgs supporting Trump through the election.

Really, programs and news are the space between ads.

This party can’t last. Look for massive layoffs at media organizations once the election is over.

      1. No, they’re afraid their Nielsen ratings and ad buy dollars will drop. The ad revenues fund everything else. They would cover the Westminster Dog show, someone reading the phone book or nightly be-headings as long as people with money who bought things stayed on the station to watch the ads and advertisers paid top dollar to place ads in the commercial breaks. Also the people who don’t fast forward through ads on a DVR or have ad-block for videos tend to skew older.

For example, every single free alternative weekly is funded by adult themed ads (and back in the day, personals), so you’d never see Dworkin-ite pieces in those papers, even as a parody.

Anything that points out how silly this is encourages people to change the channel or worse yet, shut off the tv altogether.

  3. Yeah, this shit happens all the time. Remember when CBS wouldn’t air anti Iraq war ads during superbowls?

    1. I remember missing the whole Janet Jackson nipple furor because I switched channels to watch a Move On commercial because it was super important and would change people’s minds somehow.

  4. Disney is afraid of offending anyone. However, the other media empires are controlled by Murdock and the Roberts family, and they really don’t care. The Roberts are the ones who ran the Dixie Chicks out of business for criticizing Bush on Iraq, and they control Comcast, NBC, Universal, Clear Channel and a host of other networks and properties. One of the nicknames for the Comcast HQ in Philly is the Deathstar. I suspect both Murdock and the Roberts are backing Trump.

  5. Oddly, Trump was scheduled to have dinner with Murdoch tonight, NBC News reports. I suppose the intent is to “fix” Fox News coverage of the Trump campaign.
