Putin and Erdogan

Putin and Erdogan made up and now are best buddies again. The official Russian media are filled with praise for “our Turkish colleague and partner.”

Of course, it’s better for the world that these two aging hysterics are not at each other’s throats but the unpredictability of their mood swings is disturbing.

  1. Israel and Turkey also just made up, when cabinet approved Turkey reconciliation deal. The main points of the agreement:

On a completely different topic, have you read “Terre promise” by André Maurois? I read it in the new first Russian translation: “Земля обетованная” by Андре Моруа.

  2. Political necessity has always made strange bedfellows.

Israel can’t afford to have Turkey as its enemy, so Netanyahu has eaten crow and apologized to Erdogan for the 2010 Mavi Marmara flotilla incident, even though that was a deliberate Turkey-backed attempt to run the legal Israeli blockade of Gaza, and the real intent of the flotilla was always to provoke violence and generate anti-Israeli propaganda.

Turkey can’t afford to have Russia as its enemy, so Erdogan has kissed Putin’s ass and apologized for Turkey’s legitimate action to protect its airspace by shooting down an invading Russian aircraft that was threatening ground forces inside Turkey.

And naturally Obama is sending millions of dollars to Iran…
