In Agreement

Some people think that the people who voted for Trump are racists and sexists and homophobes and deplorable folks. I don’t agree, because I’ve been there. Let me tell you something else some of you might not agree with, it wasn’t that Donald Trump won the election, it was that the Democratic Party lost the election.

I didn’t say it (this time.) Bernie Sanders did. I should have supported him more than I did because he’s being very courageous in saying this and very principled. 

But I’m also thankful to Hillary for disappearing from public life. I hope she’s done with it for good.

  3. I think both statements are true. Democrats are losing people, but I hear people saying Trump was the weakest candidate ever, which I don’t think is true. I think Hillary would’ve done better against Rubio or Cruz.

    I feel like most of what Bernie says lately is a mixture of truth and bullshit. He’ll say something true that needs to be said, then say something stupid in the next breath. And while he’s right that we need to win back the working class, I don’t think he knows how to do that if his campaign is any indication. He did not appeal to the working class that well, my family didn’t like him, my small town Southern friend didn’t like him. The people I know who really loved him were college students from middle class families and annoying social justice types. On the whole. I find the things Tim Ryan has been saying to be much more on the nose. His message is quite similar, but it rings more true to me, perhaps because he comes from a working class Ohio area, unlike Bernie who’s always been in a northwestern, liberal bubble. Personally I’m tired of liberals from the coasts and NYC trying to speak for us. It’s time for “flyover country” to have a voice of its own. I’ll post an article about him and a quote that reminded me of one of your posts☺☺

      1. Well, we disagree on some things, for example I really dislike Bernie 😂 And I’m a lot less pessimistic about Democrats than you are, maybe because the ones in my state are better than yours are.

        1. Politicians, that is. The bougie liberals in my city are surprisingly out of touch and some of them are incredibly unemphatic.

        2. You do have good Dem politicians in your state judging by that article. I’m hoping Illinois Democrats will get their shit together for the 2018 election. I want to believe they can do it and I will be organizing through the union. If they fail to unseat Rauner, they do deserve nothing but derision.

          1. We have some good politicians (not many, simply because Democrats don’t get elected here much), but an incompetent, poorly organized party that can’t get its shit together. And we have shitty politicians too; there’s nutbag Dennis Kucinich, moron Nina Turner, various idiot local politicians in Cincinnati, and of course Ed Fitzgerald, who got about one third of the vote for governor in 2014 (his primary opponent was a former male stripper)

    You know, when I hear this, repeatedly, it reads as “I don’t believe Trump voters are morally accountable for the results of their actions.”
    When I see articles about people “regretting” their vote because of [wholly predictable action that’s been screamed to the sky for years], I hear “It suits us to take the moral pose of children” and “It suits us to see these people as having the moral development of children.”

    How is that not insulting?

      • There haven’t been any results worthy of much notice yet. It’s early days, of course, but as of now, nothing’s happened.

      • There were buckets of articles like that throughout the Obama presidency by people who had voted for him. I don’t think it’s a new development.

  6. Some problems with mainstream liberals and Democrats:
    They despise the poor and the working class. Mainstream liberals are enlightened and educated, and they feel, therefore, that they know what’s best for poor (white) hicks. And anyway, they all enjoy white privilege, so they don’t have any real problems.
    The SJW type liberals obsess over bathrooms and language. Anyone who asks questions about allowing trans women to use women’s restrooms and vice versa is automatically a transphobic bigot. Anyone who says “All lives matter” or “Blue lives matter” is indistinguishable from a member of the KKK.
    The focus on diversity can fail to attract white working class voters. They may not have a problem with diversity, but they may also wonder how’s that gonna help them and their family, who may be struggling to get by?
    And the approach to diversity is often of the glass ceiling type: there aren’t enough female billionaires! they’re aren’t enough African-American CEO’s! etc. And this is really not an issue for a lot of people.

    1. So true. The intense attention that the salaries of Hollywood stars get is beyond annoying, for instance. I don’t care whether they are “discriminated.” I also couldn’t care less how white or Asian or whatever the Oscars are. Most people don’t care but this is what Democrats go on and on about.

      1. “Most people” includes most minorities too. Sure someone might want more black people to win Oscars, but that’s more a passing thought than a major concern. If the Oscars are a big pressing issue for you, you have a pretty cushy life. Poor black people in my neighborhood are more concerned about poverty, addiction, violence, etc. When people are dying I can’t bring myself to give a shit about Will Smith’s struggles. Similarly, I care even less about whether some company made an ad with gay people in it. It’s just a marketing move, not some grand act of courage. In the meantime, anti-gay violence is on the rise.
