On an emotional level, this cuts close to the bone for me.
On an analytic level, I think that you’re free to want what you want, but getting it is something else entirely. I think “getting what you want” is pretty freaking rare.
Then again, what would we do if we always got what we wanted?

I think this is not what Schopenhauer is talking about, though. This is about the construction of desire, about mediation, etc. — right?
