Different Images

What I’m not getting is why, now that I managed to see the images of the Nazi rally in Charlottesville, I’m not seeing anything even remotely resembling what I saw during the rallies in Ferguson. I’m not seeing much law enforcement at all in these images, let alone the massive, troop-like presence of heavily weaponized forces we’ve all seen back in Ferguson.

      1. Unfortunately, law enforcement in this country (maybe everywhere) skews reactionary.

The FBI Has Quietly Investigated White Supremacist Infiltration of Law Enforcement

“White supremacists and other domestic extremists maintain an active presence in U.S. police departments and other law enforcement agencies. A striking reference to that conclusion, notable for its confidence and the policy prescriptions that accompany it, appears in a classified FBI Counterterrorism Policy Guide from April 2015, obtained by The Intercept. “

  1. Southern Virginia isn’t like the DC suburbs. Parts of it are very “Old South” and what you are seeing is a throwback to the 1960s Civil Rights movement, when the police stood by and let protesters get beaten, or even participated in the beatings. The simple equation is

Bible Belt = low education = low income = prejudice/racism against everyone who might be doing better (Jews, blacks, immigrants, etc.) — and almost everyone else is doing better.

  2. Funny how the world’s most advanced militaristic police suddenly finds itself to be outgunned when confronting right wing militias. Also telling that he cites lack of property damage to validate his decision. Nevermind that someone got killed.

    Wow, talk about abject surrender.

    1. This is beyond pathetic. They let armed Nazis run amok in the town and their excuse is that they were too scared to do their fucking jobs? Priceless.

      1. This is why I have reevaluated my stance about letting Nazis protest in the name of free speech. The argument goes ‘well, if you allow that then tomorrow the state will make it hard for you to protest, slippery slope blah blah..’

To that I say that anyone whining about that slippery slope is living in a fantasy world where the police is a neutral arbiter. In the real world, the cops have already chosen a side.
