In Charlottesville, the scene of white supremacist violence in August that resulted in the death of Heather Heyer, “raw votes cast were up 31 percent,” reports FiveThirtyEight.
What stinks is that it had to go this far for people to wake the fuck up. I’m glad about the Virginia results but now is not the time for complacency and self-congratulation. This is the very first step on what can only be a very long road.
The world got a little less evil yesterday, which is something you don’t get to say often these days.

My husband and I are debating whether Trump is going to take any of this as backlash against him, or if he’s going to ignore it entirely because he’s completely uninvested in the Republican Party.

He’s already saying Gillespie caused his loss by not being allied with Trump. Although what more he could have done to ally himself with Trump beyond publicly consuming Trump’s physical excrement is a mystery.
