Ah, so this is why several women told me that the Trump sex talk tapes made them less likely to vote for Hillary. I was on a different continent until 1998, so I had no idea about any of this.
What I don’t get is what possessed Hillary to use the tape with all this history.
I wouldn’t have supported her at all if I’d known any of this. I’d just be for Bernie, hopeless as it was.

Yes, the 90’s was an interesting time to be a pre-teen/teenager in America, especially as the child of Evangelicals. On the one hand, they wanted to trash the Clintons, and on the other hand, they did not want to explain all of the terminology being thrown around on the news.
And of all the allegations that were present, the Republicans went after Bill for an apparently consensual affair with an intern. Probably because it’s against their party platform to prosecute any man for rape and sexual harassment.

Right, the Clinton rapes were known about although the whole issue was far more hush-hush back then than now.
This whole thing isn’t the only reason I wasn’t for HRC (did vote for her in generals, but wasn’t for her), but it is one of my considerations.
Of course I have a friend who says Sanders is of the generation of men who could do this with near impunity and that in revenge she was voting HRC, but my point is that HRC was complicit with so much for so long. I never thought it was my business whether or not she decided to forgive affairs, but all this rape complicity is another matter.

I get why one wouldn’t want to vote for Hillary because of that, but that still doesn’t explain why one would vote for Trump. Dozens of women have alleged he raped them.
Including his wife, who testified under oath about it. He raped her because a doctor she recommended to him apparently botched his hair transplant.

In the 1990s the barrage of anti-Clinton activity was so overwhelming that the credible reports got lost in the incredible ones. There was a huge machine that generated story after crazy story. Here’s the NYT:
“At the time, the reactionary billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife was bankrolling the Arkansas Project, which David Brock, the former right-wing journalist who played a major role in it, described as a “multimillion-dollar dirty tricks operation against the Clintons.” Various figures in conservative media accused Bill Clinton of murder, drug-running and using state troopers as pimps. Brock alleges that right-wing figures funneled money to some of Clinton’s accusers.”
But as Goldberg says here, the Broaddrick case now stands out among the others as credible. At the time it seemed highly likely that all of the Clinton accusers were being paid off. Also, the scope of the anti-Clinton operation made me think there was no way any bad thing he did would go unpunished by the law. So I (and I suspect most others) really didn’t pay attention to the individual accusations. I’m not making excuses for us, but this is the backstory.
