In the spirit of full disclosure, I’ll probably have to get vaccinated for COVID. There’s one single reason that could have made me do it, and I’ve been presented with it. My father has received a bad diagnosis in Canada. I need to be able to enter Canada easily to visit him. And enter the hospital once I get there.

I don’t want to be dishonest with my readers and pretend to be unvaccinated when things have changed. I haven’t done it yet because I can’t find a J&J in the area. It’s got to be J&J because waiting 6 weeks to get the “fully vaccinated” status defeats the whole purpose.

I don’t even feel upset about it because I don’t have much feeling left for anything in addition to what’s already happening.

    I’m so sorry about your father. And the hoop you have to jump through to be able to be with him sucks. Life is cruel enough, and it absolutely infuriates me that governments have been and are still going out of their way to increase the burdens on people, especially when the evidence is absolutely not in their favor.

    You might have more luck finding J&J by calling local hospitals or urgent care centers than the “vaccination centers” that have almost all gone Pfizer.

    No judgement from me on this. Do what you need to do to be with your father. I’d do the same in a heartbeat if I were in your situation.

      I called a couple of the places near me that were “high confidence” and they did have it.

    oof. I’m sorry. FWIW my husband got the J&J, and works in a hospital, and they’ve never given him a hard time about getting additional shots. Didn’t keep him from getting the coof, of course, but filled the bureaucratic paperwork requirement. No weird side effects so far, and it’s been a year. YMMV.

    I’m sorry about your father!

    Since you had Covid, wouldn’t one dose of a mRNA vaccine be enough? This is how it would work here.

      No, unfortunately, nobody takes natural immunity into account. Because it’s not a health-related measure.

    I’m so sorry about your father, and so sorry that Canada is making it so hard for you! FWIW if you have to get vaccinated, J&J is definitely the way to go in the US — a new study based on the companies own RCT data is showing that J&J and AZ reduces overall mortality which the mRNA vaccines don’t.
    I would also second calling the local hospitals and urgent care centers. In our area, they are the ones that have a variety of options, while the vaccination centers have all gone mRNA.

    I’m so sorry this is happening to you. A similar situation happened to my husband and I in January when his father fell seriously ill with Covid. For a week he was not able to visit his father bc he was unvaccinated and he also debated doing the exact same as you. We didn’t have the added strife of being a country away and it was easily the hardest month of our lives. We were able to work around it in the end but not until it was clear my FIL was not going to get better…i know I could have just as easily decided to get vaccinated and I would not have regretted it.
    I actually regret not getting vaccinated sometimes so I could’ve seen him while he was lucid. It is not an easy decision and an entirely unfair situation. Do what is right for you and your family. I will pray for your father. I’m so, so sorry.

      Thank you! It gets so bizarre. He’s lying there, it’s Oncology/Hematology, and the nurse keeps hovering around, trying to convince him to take a COVID booster. This was before he even had a diagnosis. Maybe let’s diagnose the patient first and then see if he needs this particular shot?

      Canadians have all gone nuts.

    I am really sorry to hear about your father. I wish him and your family the best, and will say a prayer for all of you.

    I was wondering if something like this was happening given your previous posts. I hope that you will be able to go see him without much trouble. I do not care for the coercion that the governments are exerting on their own people. Get vaccinated (for your own good) or else you will not be able to work/see your loved one… It is not right and nobody here will think less of you for making the choice that is right for you, whatever it may be.

    If you decide to get vaccinated, and you find the shot somewhere, one thing you can do is check the lot number before you take it, by going a website (google how bad is my batch, should turn up something like howbad.com or .info) and enter the lot number. You can see whether it is an uneventful batch or a high adverse event batch. It’s possible the pharmacy could have several lots available if it looks risky.

    I think the same vitamins that help with COVID also help with the vaccine. Check out the flccc site : https://covid19criticalcare.com if you’d like. To address clotting issues I have read that enzymes nattokinase and serrapeptase are good for breaking down fibrin in the blood.
