Latin Americans always complain that their region is sidelined in world politics. But the problem is that they never try to take the lead. No matter what happens – a global economic crisis, COVID, a war in Europe – Latin America can’t be bothered to care because it’s replaying on a loop its eternal obsession with trying out a socialist option. It’s like an elderly relative with dementia who sits in a corner, convinced it’s still 1959, completely incapable of noticing the new generations who are figuring out today’s problems right there in the living room.

Latin American politics is completely geriatric.

      This article assumes that people are gigantic brains on legs. But they aren’t. Reason is powerless in the face of emotion.

      I wonder, when the kids of that article’s author throw a tantrum, does he start explaining to them that their behavior is ineffective and counterproductive?

    Гений и злодейство, похоже, действительно несовместимы. Оригинальная трактовка базировалась на отождествлении гения и добра — гений приносит добро — Моцарт приносил счастье людям, Ньютон принёс невиданный материальный прогресс освободивший человека от страданий.
    Дело в другом — злодейство связано с социопатией, тесно связанной в свою очередь с эмоциональной ущербностью человека, в то же время как гений — способность творчества, открытия, постижения неразрывно связан с глубокой эмоциональностью человека. Невозможно ж быть неэмоциональным ученым или пусть даже неэмоциональным композитором эпохи барокко.
    Раздел проходит по эмоциональной координате, а не по моральной.

      I’m not sure I get it. Hatred and rage are emotions. There is no reason why a person possessed with intense emotions can’t be a total bastard while a colder, more cerebral person can’t be kind and generous.

      Unfortunately, talent has no moral component. There are extremely talented people who are absolute bastards. And wonderful, sweet people who have zero gifts in any area.
