   Defund the police is the left’s version of homeschooling…. eviscerate a public good to lower your taxes, pay for your own and too bad for all the poor schmucks who can’t afford it!

   1. The bastards have their own police and then they sneer at us for living in the suburbs to avoid the high crime rates of STL.

      Did you see what happened in Memphis yesterday? The livestreamed shooting spree? Who’d want to live in that without a personal police force?

2. OT: Queen Elisabeth II passed away today. RIP. As a living symbol of the nation state she did her job superbly well for 70 years. It will be interesting to see how the UK does without her… I’ve seen predictions for the UK after ER that range from no change to total atomization and social collapse.

         Why did he love her? People are full of surprises. I would expect him to be for abolishing monarchy. Or was he for abolishing, but liked the queen as a person?

         Today thought that one positive element of British monarchy is to fulfill the desire of quite many people to adore (“be a fan of”) somebody representing an authoritative parent figure.
         The roots of Putin club, Trump lovers or even of the nickname “Mutti Merkel” are psychological. If people direct those needs at the queen, it’s much healthier than directing them at manipulative and often mistaken politicians. At least, the queen was supposed to be outside of politics and followed those rules, unlike quite a few in her family.

         1. My father was a huge fan of the British monarchy. He was deeply conservative and loved the Victorian era.

            Why did you expect him to be for abolishing the monarchy?

            It’s a great insight. People do seem to have the need to find parent figures in politicians and celebrities. It’s incomplete to me but it’s definitely there.

               You’ve mentioned several times that monarchy should be abolished since it lost all meaning in today’s world.

               One can be deeply conservative, love the Victorian era, yet be for abolishing this institution today, while recognizing its past contributions.

               Why NOT abolish it?

   1. Soviet people HATED Raisa because she had stylish outfits and hairstyles (for a Soviet woman). They couldn’t stand a woman who made it clear she was a woman and not a sexless robot.

         Galeev claims it was also because her husband seemed to have some respect and affection for her (the tsar is not supposed to be tied down by relationships, especially a wife). putin on the other hand discarded his first wife like a used dishrag and fathered children with some other bimbo or two – appropriate behavior for a tsar.

   One can be insane and still be completely sincere. The cognitive dissonance is at levels that would normally be unsustainable because it’s aided and abetted by massive doses of virtue signalling the likes of which a sane, well-adjusted person cannot even imagine.

      The british monarchy is something people like to moan and complain about, but if it’s abolished… then there’s no more country… a country can’t exist without unifying symbols and the monarchy is all that Britain has. Without it, it’s just a place on the map where a bunch of atomized individuals live (the neoliberal dream but a nightmare for most human beings).

            Exactly what I always thought about the RC church in Poland;… there were massive problems with it (still are…) but I had nothing and could think of nothing that could take its place and so I generally shut up about it….

   Англичане очень ее любили, и есть за что.
   Я совсем не монархист, но всегда относился к Елизавете с восхищением. Потому что вся ее жизнь была служением, исполнением долга. Личное для нее всегда было на втором месте.
   Посмотрите на ее последний официальный снимок, за два дня до смерти.
   Слабая, тяжело больная (рука вся черная от уколов), Елизавета поднялась с постели и сделала то, что должна была сделать. Если монархи зачем-то нужны, то только такие.
