Talking Point

It’s curious that people who keep repeating like overexcited parrots that “Biden will fight to the last Ukrainian” never say that Putin will fight to the last Russian. Clearly, Putin has more ways to motivate Russians to fight than Biden does to motivate Ukrainians. But that simple thought doesn’t occur because the point is to repeat a soothing talking point and avoid thinking as much as possible.

The Stupid Squad

The letter was signed by some of the best-known and most outspoken liberal Democrats in Congress, including Reps. Jamie Raskin (Md.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), Cori Bush (Mo.), Ro Khanna (Calif.) and Ilhan Omar (Minn.).

And this, of course, is no surprise at all because we all know that these are the most stupid among Democrats.

Good Surprise

Wow, Marcos Moulitsas turned out to be a decent person. You just never know. There have been many bad surprises in the past 8 months but this is definitely a good one.

The progressives Moulitsas is talking about are the usual suspects. The most unhinged representatives of the far-left. The love of genocidal regimes are a shared passion on the far left and the far right.

A Loss for UK

The UK has ended up with the ultra-neoliberal Rishi Sunak. What a bloody shame.

Quote of the Day

Thus there was always in Progressivism a certain implicit paternalism, a condescension that was all the more unattractive for being unacknowledged.

A Study in Contrasts

I asked for a bowl of mushroom soup and the waitress brought me this bath tub.

Maybe it doesn’t look that big in the picture but I couldn’t put my arms around it without bending into the soup. (To hold my phone while I read, obviously.)

I could have asked for a cup but then they bring you this tiny thing where you aren’t sure if there’s soup or somebody forgot to wash the dregs off somebody else’s cup.

There’s no middle option. Like everything in America, it’s either amazing or total crap. It’s mostly amazing, of course.

Quote on Egalitarianism

There’s a difference between democracy and egalitarianism, and no matter how strongly you might feel about the former, nothing’s more toxic to the soul than the latter. Too often the promise of a union isn’t fair treatment but rather equal treatment. Do you do a good job or a shitty one? Doesn’t matter. Your union has fought hard for a living wage, so you’ll get it.

A Lethal Weapon

Yes, there’s definitely no need to open up comments since anybody who saw this image is in the grip of an epileptic fit and can’t type.

I hope the Pentagon isn’t snoozing on the job and is adopting this as a weapon of mass terror against our enemies.

Quote of the Day

You must remember what you are and what you have chosen to become, and the significance of what you are doing. There are wars and defeats and victories of the human race that are not military and that are not recorded in the annals of history.

John Williams, Stoner

Another Neoliberal Trick

Here’s another trick of Russian neoliberalism. The authorities contact a mother of a dead soldier and tell her, “We buried your son. Here’s the bill for what it cost us. 62,000 rubles. Pay or we’ll put a lien on your apartment.” They paid nothing, of course, but how is the poor broad going to prove it? This whole war is a pretext for a capital transfer upwards, like everything in neoliberalism.
