I definitely need a break from teaching. I noticed that when N plays with Klara, he has a large repertoire of games. And I always somehow end up playing the same game where I’m a teacher and Klara and her toys are students. Yesterday, we started playing mommies and also ended up in the same game of teacher and students. I’m very bored with that game because we’ve been playing it for years. But my brain is fried, and I can’t snap out of it.
I know, people will tell me to try board games. And I have but guess what? Every board game turns into a game about a teacher and students playing a board game.
Right, try this then as a counter-strategy …
Klara has to make up a game and you have to play it.
Naturally you’re going to do all sorts of silly things such as not following the rules to the letter, not taking the rules seriously, not being totally adamant about the rules having any basis in a supportable reality, and so on.
Klara will naturally resist many of your resistance and subversion techniques, and will eventually complain.
BUT YOU’RE NOT PLAYING THE GAME RIGHT! YOU KEEP BENDING THE RULES!
Of course you are. 🙂
You’re showing her The Game of Being An Adult where all of this happens as part of daily life.
Isn’t it much more fun to be able to play the game without taking it seriously?
OH KLARA, ARE YOU PLAYING THE COMPLAINING GAME WITHIN A GAME?
Maybe you don’t want to allow Clarissa to win! Maybe you want to complain your way to victory!
Well, tough! Now Clarissa has three Valid Complaints she can make about you!
(I just made up that rule.) 🙂
WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU’RE TAGGING IN SNORLAX AS A REFEREE?
I’M TAGGING IN LECHONK AS A REFEREE, SO THERE!
(We’ll allow it!) 🙂
And yes, there’s now a Pokemon named Lechonk.

Haha, yes. When I used to get tired of playing the “mom” in those games, “mom” would start doing all sorts of nutty things “Ooops! I forgot the stove was on, and now the house has burned down! I guess we’ll have to live in a tent!”
