This is a billboard near St Petersburg that advertised PMC Wagner. It’s being urgently removed:

Russians have deified Wagnerites. They were the epic heroes the country worshipped. The Wagner (think where the name comes from for a second) mystique was cultivated with a single-minded intensity.
Now there will have to be a large pivot away from the Wagner worship. The Russian authorities are already blaming – yes, you’ve guessed it – the Pentagon. Let’s see how fast the US fans of Russia start parroting these lines.

Prigozhin was Putin’s personal chef. Why it was a good idea to let him cook up uprisings instead of soup, I can’t say.

How likely do you think this is? It seems as reasonable as any other explanation for what hasn’t happened (in terms of reaction by the russian military). But then ‘reasonable’ is not a word that it pays to use when discussing russia….

Anything is possible but I still think that Prigozhin got upset and is acting out. He’s been posting daily videos of trying to get a complaint sent to Putin, trying to explain why the regular army is engaging in mass suicide, trying to get heard. In response, the regular army bombed his camp. That’s when he got really upset.

Some say that Wagner has been planning this for months, and there is a blogger for months who has been saying that Wagner is planning a coup. So this might not be as spontaneous as it looks on the surface.

It’s possible. I wouldn’t put anything past these people. But those who say Prigozhin is doing this on orders from Putin – I honestly don’t see it.
