My Twitter account is getting close to the magical number of 400 followers, after which my accounts usually get banned. I barely even post but for some reason I always get banned.
The last time I was banned for inciting violence against an ethnic group. I told a group of Russians discussing where to deliver a nuclear strike on Ukraine to strike themselves on their heads instead. Obviously, they weren’t banned. Nor did I report them because I’m against censorship.
The whole concept of inciting violence is incomprehensible to me. If people act violently, it’s 100% on them, not on somebody who said something.
Meanwhile, at MSNBC….

–the news networks think inciting violence is hilarious. As long as it’s against white farmers.

…do they get banned from social media for it, I wonder.

To me, this all looks very disturbing. I don’t know much about South Africa, but the concerted effort to pooh-pooh everything is “just a song, just a joke, just two people dead” doesn’t look reassuring. Surely, a stadium full of white people with Confederate flags singing “kill the blacks” wouldn’t be justified as “just their historical song that doesn’t mean anything”.

If I were living in SA I’d be looking for somewhere, anywhere, to expatriate about now– now’s probably not a good time to try to hang onto the farm. Everything I’ve heard about politics in Africa, generally is… a whole lot of the countries there can be fairly peaceful for long-ish stretches, but it’s an illusion– stuff can go from OK normal, people living in nice houses and driving their cars to work every day, to wholesale slaughtering of neighbors and body parts dangling from the trees without much warning.
I’ve read similar stories about farm families being tortured and killed in Argentina, after the economic collapse. Nobody close enough to hear you scream…

This has been going on for a very long time in SA. If you want some background, this series of articles covers some of the origins of criminal violence in SA.

I’m sure you know more about it than I do– I don’t know whether to be dismayed that it’s been going on forever, or relieved that it’s not a new and alarming trend?

The biggest trend recently is that the government ment has been losing popular support and there are big elections due next year. There seem to have been a lot of discussions with Russia about how to avoid color revolution since they only consider elections legitimate if they win.
