Anti-conspirology

Kamil Galeev is right, as usual. Prigozhin is a complete idiot. We have all heard him speak many times, and he was a pouty, dumb old man. But now everyone goes, “How could he not know Putin would have him killed? He should have known!”

Earlier this summer, Prigozhin filmed this mega cringe video of himself trying to mail a complaint to Putin. He actually thought it a good idea to post a video of himself being humiliated casually by some kid secretary refusing to accept the complaint and treating him like a nobody. Prigozhin thought it was a good look for him.

“He should have known!” The words “Prigozhin” and “know” shouldn’t be in the same sentence.

The whole idea that people we see on screens are Machiavellian evildoers with complex strategies and detailed plans is childish. That’s how we saw our parents in infancy. In reality, these people have no idea what they are doing. Their actions seem so contradictory not because it’s part of some secret plan but because they sincerely have no idea what they want or think.

  1. “a complete idiot”

Up until a few years ago I consoled myself with the thought that those in charge couldn’t possibly be as stupid as they seem…. they just have access to information that I don’t have… blah blah blah…” and then I realized… no, they really are that stupid.
putain really is stupid enough to think that Ukrainians really wanted to be russians (“Our ‘little brothers’ of course they idolize us!”) and he’s also stupid enough to not have any idea of how to disengage once that theory died in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary).

  2. How the heck did this “idiot” make it so far then? Quite literally one of Russia’s most powerful men. Makes no sense to me, but maybe that’s a good thing.

It’s an organizing principle of russian society that seems…. insane to westerners…. cause it is……. “Access to the Body”…. (доступ к телу?).
Basically physical proximity to the Tsar (whatever he’s called at the moment) was/is a necessary element for advancement.

      1. This is mind mindbogglingly stupid to me, but I guess it makes some sense. Here I was thinking Prigo had really risen from nothing to power, but seems he was just lucky to have “access to the body.” It’s just crazy though, even I knew he was a dead man walking the moment he betrayed Putin, how that was not beyond obvious to Prigo it’s beyond me, honestly.

one hypothesis: He never intended to threat putain in any serious way and he assumed putain realized that too… I’m surprised at how many seemingly functional adults have no theory of mind and I think a certain kind of ambition almost requires having no theory of mind…. which has its drawbacks

another hypothesis: He assumed he was protected…. his behavior for quite a while before the march could only be explained by being protected by someone or someones at a very high level. They withdrew their protection and…. plane go boom boom.
