Huh? Putin is dissing his enemies. He’s saying they’re weak, they only managed to get to where they are by stealing. This is why it’s not woke.

Putin dissed his enemy by saying the enemy is weak and was able to achieve what it has only by bullying and stealing from others (as opposed to getting a high standard of living thanks to intelligence, hard work, and good governance).
Self-flagellation is woke. This is the opposite of that.

I wasn’t trying to engage in some sort of schoolyard pissing contest with you personally. I was trying to explain the mindset of Putin fans among Western conservatives and how he and Russia can be seen as anti-woke despite him saying this and kids of Russian elites being genderfluid. It’s my theory and it may be completely wrong. I’d be curious to see what other commenters think.

People mean different ones depending on the person and the context.
I’m guessing you’re using the more academic definition in the case of Putin’s statement. Dictionary.com has it as “having or marked by an active awareness of systemic injustices and prejudices”. But by this definition, being aware of BLM and transgenderism being pushed down people’s throats, of the takeover of academia by leftists, of conservatives living in fear and not being able to express their opinions is woke. We’re talking about systemic prejudice against people who believe men in dresses are not women.
Western conservative Putin fans are using another meaning of “woke”. Being weak, self-flagellating, unpatriotic are important aspects of it. Putin saying the above about the West is not self-flagellating or unpatriotic to Russia.
My theory doesn’t explain why the genderfluid kids of Russian oligarchs and propagandists don’t bother Western Putin fans. Probably because they don’t know. I’m guessing those young Russians are not promoting that in Russia. Most of them probably live in the West, and those in Russia are in Moscow/St. Petersburg, in progressive social circles that are not trying to force their views on the rest of the country. Their parents don’t go on and on about that like parents in the West.

They aren’t promoting gender theory in Russia, no. They are promoting it in the West for the simple reason that Russians are too indigent to pay for high-class escorts or gender surgeries. All of the children of the Russian oligarchs live in the West. Including Putin’s daughters.
As for woke, “West is the world’s villain” is the foundation of the woke ideology. This belief doesn’t become good and correct depending on who says it. Nothing does. Being anti-woke means believing in objective reality, believing in truth. You are either a man or a woman. The West is not the root of all evil. Racism is wrong whether you mistreat whites or blacks for racist reasons.
“The West mistreats everybody” is a leftist mantra that’s over 100 years old. That’s an unchangeable fact of reality just like biological sex is an unchangeable fact of reality.
