Against Post-colonialism

The events of the past few days have once again demonstrated that the rhetoric of post-colonialism and anti-imperialism needs to be retired for good. It has been racialized and emptied of all content.

There are no more empires. The empires are all long gone. Unless you are speaking of things that happened 60+ years ago, avoid this useless terminology.

  1. Larry Summers is sad. But all the students did was to take decades of anticolonial, anti-racist, anti-imperialist, anti-west rhetoric supplied to them by his friends in academia and took it to its logical conclusion. These people have worked very hard to short-circuit people’s minds so thoroughly you have to make mental calculations using some oppressor-oppressed matrix in your head before you can decide if rape and murder is bad or good. Larry Summers is not allowed to cry about it when this antipathy affects people he likes. I bet he still believes that AmeriKKKA is a white supremacist country.

Harvard: Whiteness is evil. We must repent for our sins until the end of time.
Also Harvard: Why are our students cheering for murder?

    1. This is true. I was teaching about Columbus on Columbus Day this year, and as usual, this is painful. Students come with their heads filled with the most bizarre self-hating stuff. You should have seen the faces when I said, “It’s normal for people to celebrate their own existence.”

So yes, it will take a while to undo the damage.

  2. It’s the same shit at home. There’s this entire army of ‘public intellectuals’ telling us urban crime is due to poverty and historic racist policies.

No, just no. When a man decides to take a gun and shoot a 5th grader in the head as revenge over some gang beef with his father, at every step of the process he had a choice. And he made the immoral choice. It’s not because his grandfather was denied a mortgage due to redlining. Stop infantilizing people, give them some credit for their own agency, stop viewing people as inanimate objects being pushed solely by the forces of history. Jesus.
