Between 2014 and 2022, Ukraine held about 200 rounds of peace talks with Russia. That’s two hundred.
During this period, 20 cease-fire agreements were reached, all of which were quickly violated by Russia. Twenty. All broken by the same side immediately or almost immediately.
None of the 200 rounds of talks or the 20 ceasefires prevented Putin from launching a brutal all-out invasion of Ukraine on February 24th, 2022.
People who say Ukraine should hold peace talks with Russia either suffer from mental retardation or are very dishonest.
It’s impossible to give people with a narcissistic injury what they need. It’s impossible to content them. Concessions make them angry instead of happy because after each concession they realize that their hunger can’t be fed.

Sounds just like the Hamas/Israel cease fires that Hamas breaks.
It seems like a failure on the part of the US to not decisively prevent the original incursion in 2022 or end it immediately. Our response was pathetic. Our foreign policy has been pathetic Putin didn’t invade while Trump was President. What was it that was better about our foreign policy then? Or do we really have nothing to do with it?

IDF in Gaza: “The IDF said on Thursday that its forces had raided the military quarter of the Hamas terrorist organization in the heart of Gaza City, near the Shifa Hospital. … the quarter is the heart of intelligence and operational activities of Hamas and was used, among other things, to plan and prepare Hamas operatives for the murderous attack on October 7th. ”
Iran-backed Yemen’s Houthis continue attacking us: “the long-range Arrow air defense system has intercepted a surface-to-surface missile launched toward Eilat. […] Last week, a ballistic missile fired … at Eilat was downed”
More importantly, today ” a drone of unclear origin crashed and exploded at a school in the southernmost city of Eilat … Seven treated by MDA for acute anxiety.” Only 37 special ed students were at school at this time, and fortunately they were inside the shelter. There are signs the drone could be produced in Iran.
A blogger correctly noted that Iran may hope to break us, but may reach the opposite result similar to one Hamas is experiencing in Gaza. A good short post:

Was surprised by this info re Shifa hospital in Gaza:

А что же сама больница? Она была построена в 1946 году британцами, но современный вид приняла в 1980х, когда израильские архитекторы превратили здание старой казармы в современный госпиталь на тысячу коек. Госпиталь был перестроен по стандартам израильского «Тель-а-Шомер» со всем самым современным оборудованием за израильский счет. Как и в других израильских больницах, архитекторы предусмотрели подземные уровни, на случай войны с Египтом. Именно из них террористы сделали свои штабы и оттуда начали бурить туннели вглубь.
Как только Израиль вышел из Газы в 2005 году, на территории госпиталя начались перестрелки между террористами ХАМАСа и ФАТХа, видимо, за право пользования подземной инфраструктурой. ХАМАС не просто посбрасывал с крыш своих политических и террористических оппонентов тогда, но и уволил 600 врачей, которые «работали на Фатх». 600 врачей. Госпиталь остался без персонала и некоторое время существовал только благодаря международной помощи.
После этого ХАМАС начал долгий проект выкапывания туннелей под больницей. Израиль провел несколько крупных и несколько средних по масштабам операций против ХАМАСа, однако никогда не брал штурмом «Шифу» и ее подземный город.
А теперь то, что поразило меня больше всего.
Несмотря на бесконечную войну, теракты, обстрелы Израиля десятками тысяч ракет за все эти годы, в больницу «Шифа» в Газе продолжали приезжать израильские врачи, чтобы проводить операции и консультировать пациентов. Израильские хирурги проводили по 50 операции каждый месяц в «Шифе» и консультировали тысячи жителей Газы, спасали им жизни. Последние операции были проведены буквально за несколько недель до чудовищного теракта 7 Октября, спланированного в подвалах этого самого госпиталя.

Голубая линия – это идентификация с государством и его проблемами в среде евреев, красная – среди арабов. В июне ассоциировало себя с Израилем лишь 48 процентов граждан арабского происхождения, в ноябре – аж 70.
Арабское население оказалось шокировано действиями ХАМАС и резко качнулось в направлении Израиля. В последний раз такой высокий уровень солидаризации с ним наблюдался в этой группе 20 лет назад – в 2005 году – как раз в момент, когда он выводил войска и еврейские поселения из Газы, предоставляя тамошним палестинцам право строить свою жизнь самостоятельно.
Вряд ли усиление поддержки Израиля в арабском секторе входило в список задач, которые пытался решать ХАМАС, однако они там не настолько ммм… политически изощрены, чтобы просчитывать последствия собственных действий.

Recently found a youtube channel by a russian in Poland who translates messages from the russian internet about Poland into Polish….
One was devoted to reactions to a video about a fairly typical Polish village. russians mostly refused to believe it was a village and thought it was a section of a large city reserved for the rich….
One commented that he’d been in Warsaw and Krakow, and wrote (excerpts):
“What irritates me in Poland is that it’s so nice and clean, I’m very jealous of Poles and wish they lived worse…. They don’t deserve such a good life. We russians should live like them… why dont’ we live that way? … We russians should be in their place, we deserve that and they should have to work for us…. all the cleanliness in the street just made me angry. I just wanted to destroy something”

This is a constant leitmotiv in all Russian discussions about countries to the West of Russia. People of all social classes speak like this, and it’s been going on for twenty years, getting worse all the time.
Here in the US people project their own thinking on Russia and don’t try to understand what Russians actually want. It’s a sad example of self-centeredness that will have bad consequences.

Watched a fantastic short interview (only 26 minutes) with Mordechai Kedar, a professor, an Israeli scholar of Arab culture who “served for 25 years in IDF Military Intelligence, where he specialized in Islamic groups, the political discourse of Arab countries, the Arabic press and mass media, and the Syrian domestic arena.”
He explained f.e. why it’s a mistake to use Western standards of “he was eating pork / she was a prostitute, so this person, who committed a terrorist act, isn’t a True Muslim.”
Also touched upon the difference between Islam of Hamas and the one of Saudi Arabia.
He answered in Hebrew but it was translated into Russian.

Btw, Mordechai Kedar has his own proposal to solve the Middle East conflict:
// Since 2012, Kedar has promoted a Palestinian-Israeli peace plan referred to as the “Palestinian Emirates” or “Eight-State Solution”.
According to Kedar, “The eight-state solution is based on the sociology of the Middle East, which has the tribe as the major cornerstone of society. We should follow this characteristic of Middle Eastern culture as the basis for the Israeli-Palestinian solution.” He says that the Western-style nation-state structures imposed on regions inhabited by multiple tribes such as Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Libya are failed or failing, whereas states based on homogenous tribes such as the United Arab Emirates can succeed.
The eight Palestinian city-states would be the Gaza Strip, Jenin, Nablus, Ramallah, Jericho, Tulkarm, Qalqilya, and the Arab part of Hebron, all of which he says possess traditional tribal leadership structures capable of transitioning to a self-governing emirate. Geographically, each emirate would govern its city and surrounding land. Each state could independently decide its own form of government, make its own laws, educate its own people, and print its own currency if it wishes, as well as have its own media, develop its own industry and commerce, or have its people find employment within Israel. This structure gives control and responsibility to local residents to decide their own future.
Kedar says this proposal would result in self-governance and self-determination for the vast majority of Palestinian Arabs, with the remaining (sparsely populated) area of the West Bank to be annexed by Israel and its residents offered Israeli citizenship. As part of the arrangement, Israel would provide free passage of people and goods between each city-state and internationally. This proposal also satisfies Israeli security concerns, retaining strategic depth and minimizing the threat of rockets or terror tunnels.
