Why, why is he doing this? What possesses Biden to humiliate himself like this to appease the tiniest of minorities that will vote for him anyway?
And these people make fun of MAGAs. MAGAs are imperfect – and who isn’t? – but they don’t go into fits over “magic words”. I’ve so had it with magic words. Laken Riley is dead no matter if you call her murderer illegal, undocumented or a blue fucking giraffe with pink stripes. Biden could have said, “A citizen of this country is dead and I’d rather talk about that and not play word games if you don’t mind.” Instead he pants like an old sick dog in response to some stupid journalist. It’s humiliating to watch.
The leader of the free world can’t even speak freely without having to issue groveling apologies for a single word.
That it has come to this. Is it really so surprising that people flock to a candidate who can speak whole sentences without retracting and apologizing?

I had just been thinking Biden was a brilliant political strategist. “Illegal” dominated the headlines after the SOTU, a good distraction from the rest of the lackluster address. And then, for a bit, he wasn’t apologetic about it, creating the appearance of distance between him and the open borders crowd. Alas, it appears he’s been talked out of his own good political instincts.

I am surprised at your surprise, dear Clarissa, since your analysis of the political situation in the US has been extremely lucid and perceptive so far.
A cognitively impaired octogenarian, who has been put into his position by the real powers behind the powers that be, Mr Biden has long ceased being “the leader of the free world”, if he ever was such a leader, which I hold in serious doubt.
As an outside observer it seems to me that, unless one is a liberal woke white female between the age of 20 and 65, or a liberal white male professional, the current elites, the real powers behind the powers that be, and the liberal intelligentsia are simply too afraid that voters have had enough of being governed by a puppet.
I feel the same atmosphere as when decisions by the European Union are put to the vote. For our elites, democracy is just a charade, a pantomime that can be gamed until voters come up with the required results. I understand that for you and for many intelligent people in America, choosing between Biden and Trump is like choosing between two evils of different kinds, but choose one must, and there is no question that Biden is not fit for purpose.
