A terrible night for Ukraine. I didn’t sleep because I can’t while Kharkiv is being mass bombed. In the meantime, stupid Jack Sullivan is telling Ukraine not to bomb the Russian oil refineries because it’s mean, or something.
The Biden administration has been such a fail. They help Russia and Hamas, they send ginormous amounts of money to Iran so that Iran can give Russia even more Shaheed drones to destroy Ukraine. Domestically, they have the absolute gall to claim they reduced crime. Their vaunted crime reduction is in comparison with 2020, and the gullible among us don’t even notice the trick that’s pulled on them. The crime spike of 2020 came from the BLM and the resulting depolicing. These absolute cynics first engineer a huge crime wave and then want to be rewarded for bringing crime rates down in comparison to the crime wave of their own making.
I can’t, in good conscience, vote for these people. But I can’t vote for Trump either because he’s just as indecisive, dishonest and useless. Six years after becoming a citizen and being so excited finally to vote, I’ll probably sit out this presidential election because choosing between two shades of excrement is no choice at all.
Unfortunately, the Republican party that we knew is almost dead, if not dead already after being taken over by the MAGA crowd. They’re now looking into funneling all donations to the RNC directly to Trump’s legal defense:

So, in my mind there is no real good alternative go Biden. Maybe if many of us vote for a third party, that could get the ball rolling on a viable third party?
It’s really troubling that out of 330 million people, these two individuals are our options. We badly need better options and more than two parties, one which is almost defunct at this point.

I don’t see why the RNC donations shouldn’t go into ensuring that the frontrunner can, indeed, run. What would be a better spend? TV ads? Trump doesn’t win on TV ads. He wins by doing rallies.
I’m surprised by the nature of Dems’ attacks on him. They criticize and often invent things that make him more appealing. There’s a million things that will make him less appealing but that never is brought up. All that’s ever mentioned is stuff that the Dem base doesn’t like. There’s no effort to appeal to the undecideds, like me. On either side. Both sides are preaching to the passionately converted, which makes no sense beyond the primaries stage.

I think the problem is that:
We need a strong party opposition to the Democratic party, but Republican party is going the opposite direction. It’s basically just MAGA now and that’s hugely problematic for many obvious reasons.

Or he has so many legal troubles because he’s a successful Republican nominee.

Most undecideds aren’t paying attention to the election yet. I imagine we’ll start seeing more generalized appeals sometime during the summer.

OFF TOPIC: Gunshots and dead civilians at a concert venue in Moscow followed by an explosion and the building being on fire.
My guess is it’s a false flag terrorist attack that will be blamed on Ukrine to serve as an excuse for full mobilization (there is precedent for that). This is probably the attack that intelligence servcies were warning about a week or two ago.

Update to Off Topic: Latest word is that Islamic State is being blamed… the US apparently warned russia of an impending attack and russia probably did nothing since the government doesn’t care about things like that….

The attack is convenient for the Russian government, so why would they prevent it?

I don’t think you should. I would find the least (or most) offensive third party candidate and vote for them and/or simple write “none of these choices are acceptable” on the ballot as a protest.

Yeah, how are third parties going to become stronger if nobody votes for them?

Write in Mickey Mouse for president. Or that boot head guy. But for the love of pete, vote for the local stuff that really matters.

Back in 2016, our county board was wrestled away from Democrats and thank goodness for that. It’s been solidly red for 8 years, and this year the Republican chairman of the board is running unopposed in the general. This has been great for the county.

In my experience, when you look into third parties, it’s a heartening reminder of why most people stick with Democrats and Republicans. However bad the two major parties may be, the irrelevant little side parties are worse.

In your neck of the woods, local and legislative elections are much more important anyway, assuming they’re competitive.

Israeli new “supporters”:
//
The United Nations Security Council on Friday failed to pass a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza as part of a hostage deal after Russia and China vetoed the measure proposed by the United States.
The resolution, which Guyana also abstained from voting for, called for an immediate and sustained ceasefire lasting roughly six weeks that would protect civilians and allow for the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
…
China’s representative, Zhang Jun, said the draft “dodged the most central issue, that of a ceasefire” through its “ambiguous” language.
“Nor does it even provide an answer to the question of realizing a ceasefire in the short term,” he said.
Russia’s ambassador to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, also speaking before the vote, called on members not to vote in favor of the resolution.
He said the resolution was “exceedingly politicized” and contained an effective green light for Israel to mount a military operation in Rafah, a city on the southern tip of the Gaza Strip where more than half of its 2.3 million residents have been sheltering in makeshift tents to escape the Israeli assault farther north.
“This would free the hands of Israel and it would result in all of Gaza and its entire population having to face destruction, devastation or expulsion,” Nebenzia told the meeting.
