Midwestern Birthday Traditions

Birthday celebrations ended on a high note of waiting out a tornado warning in a church basement. We couldn’t get any more authentic if we tried.

The bored voices Midwesteners use to say the word “tornado” are a great contrast to the reaction one gets from people in other regions.

  1. Ma’am. You have as much business opining on my family’s traditions as I would have making commentary on ethnic Maripol celebrations. Please cut it out.

My mother did PR work in the plains states in the summers for a few decades. She recalls once in an Eastern (flat) Colorado diner making a flippant comment about a just announced tornado warning….. followed by a real, palpable silence of the ‘you done messe up…. real bad’ kind.
