Can’t Write

My university is organizing a writing retreat for “BIPOC” [pronounced “bye, poke”] academics. Because, apparently, non-white people can’t write worth a shit when they know that whites are present somewhere in the building.

I’ve been told for years that, since I am a woman, I shouldn’t be able to write, speak, think, and express ideas around men. I’ve also been repeatedly told that it’s not possible for students to like my teaching because I’m an immigrant and speak with an accent. I haven’t paid any attention and have been speaking, writing, publishing, and teaching as much as I choose to. I feel compassion for people who are still paying attention to this silly victim talk.

    1. “helping them write better”

      What do you think?

The purpose isn’t about writing at all, it’s about giving them excuses for failure that can leveraged into seething resentment – the most precious natural resource of the left.

      1. Absolutely. I was at a writing retreat for everybody yesterday, and as I wrote I was overhearing a group of women talking about how they didn’t write because they were women with families, and if only they were men without families, tons of writing was going to happen. What a great excuse and what an easy way to keep your family perennially guilty for your laziness.

  1. “People of color” used to be quite a slur. It’s like queer, reclaimed by the activists.

I wish more people were like Morgan Freeman who refuses to be called African-American because… “I’m not African.”
