We Are Screwed

When did it become fashionable to pose as a brainless, infantile airhead?

This is painful to watch.

  1. What, you didn’t notice this before!? Just think, with some weight loss, a wardrobe upgrade, and extra blonding, you too could be a highly credentialed spokeslady saying the most inane things for easy big money.

    1. Once, once in my life I wore the same shirt for two public appearances, and already people are disparaging my wardrobe. Yes, it tends to be majorly peachy. I don’t know what it is with me and peach colors. But it’s very varied otherwise.

As for extra blonding, Candace Owens is an unlikely candidate. Although, yes, great, tasteful wardrobes.

  2. People like Candace Owens give conservative women a bad name, heck, many conservative women give conservatives a bad name. Many conservative women seem to think that being pretty and hating liberals is enough, or that being a hateful bitch makes one a conservative.

This is why I had a problem with Ann Coulter, she came off as a deeply unpleasant individual who’s whole schtick is that she hates liberals and Democrats and is an attractive women. I doubt she has ever read National Review or Bill Buckley or serious political science literature. Unfortunately since so few women are openly conservatives, just being “a conservative woman who isn’t ugly” is a big deal.

This is why people like Candace Owens make conservatives look bad, she’s such an outlier as an African American woman that she’s going to get attention. But when she makes anti-Semitic remarks or that she doesn’t believe in science, it just makes conservative women look stupid and silly. I hate that, I’ve read a lot of political science and probably am more informed than Owens, but since I’m not saying dumb things on social media and am not an attractive woman, I won’t get that sort of attention even if I wanted

    1. Man, I really hate this idea that because some loud mouth idiot that happens to share my gender, political views, religion, etc. says something stupid, then that reflects on me.

If we all just agreed to ignore these people completely, they would disappear from our media and our consciousness.

They say controversial things to get a reaction out of people and increase their popularity and we are giving it to them by even mentioning their names.

      1. I was at a work meeting yesterday where people expressed opinions similar to Michelle’s. I can’t ignore it when my employer forces me to sit there and listen. If only these were just some random idjits online. But it’s everywhere. It’s fashionable to be pouty and contrarian.

    2. *chuckles*

You wouldn’t have a problem with her if she was deeply Midwestern Nice?

Being deeply unpleasant is part of Ann Coulter’s brand and appeal! Coulter went to Cornell, founded the conservative student newspaper there, has a JD from the University of Michigan, she was a syndicated columnist for NRO. A lot of these media figures move in the same circles and date each other.

Anyways, it’s not like being Republican or MAGA is about being pleasant. That’s hilarious.

As for Candace Owens? Well, if she looks dumb, it fits what many conservatives think of black women. She’s married to a filthy rich son of a lord and MP. This is a hobby for her.

People love intellectuals who make them feel smart for following them, just a half step ahead, like ‘oh you got it, genius!”

People love intellectuals that will validate their silly vapid priors.

People love anyone who will do that, no matter how smart or dumb they are..

Very few people actually operate out of any principle other than “power is good defer to me, power is bad if I don’t like you and you suck and are dangerous if you hold it.” The intellectuals just use proper punctuation and complete sentences in their rationalizations.

No, it’s what liberals think of conservative black people. Candace Owens may indeed be stupid, but liberals have never shied away from calling all black conservatives dumb and Uncle Toms. The viciousness that Clarence Thomas has attracted from libs all his life has been something to behold, especially from a group of people who claim to care so deeply about POC.

The truth is that it’s Sotomayor and Kagan who are literal retards, but that’s a discussion for another day.

        1. I’ve read a couple of Sotomayor opinions recently, and at first I thought somebody was making them up to libel her. Then it turned out they were originals. It was actually quite disturbing.

I hear that Kagan is even worse. Obama truly couldn’t stand intelligent people.

    3. I don’t think it’s anything particular about Owens. IMO it’s just a hazard of making your living as a social-media-based public opinion generator. You have to keep talking, all the dang time, in public, in order to stay relevant and keep lining up public appearances. But there’s never that much that needs to be said, so there you are, day in, day out, it’s your job to come up with hot takes every day, something short, sharp, and shareable. I’m not sure there’s any way to avoid ego inflation doing that, either. Eventually, they all start spouting dumb, insane, or heretical garbage because who can keep talking that much and avoid it?

The profession itself is structurally unhealthy for humans.

When I see it in religious commentators, I’m always hoping there’s a bishop or pastor who will intervene with a temporary gag order once in a while, for the sake of their souls.

  3. A christian theocracy would still be 100x better than one imposed by the genetic trash they love to import from the islamic world. Feminist deference towards Islam (and other brown/black countries) has always weirded me out. Here are a people who perform worse on every metric you hold sacred, and you still support bringing them into your countries.

There’s no principle here except hate for their fathers.

      1. And even if it’s true (which it isn’t) it just goes to show that he could’ve done this at any time during his presidency instead of falsely claiming that he had no power to do so. There’s so much lying that they are unable to keep their stories straight anymore and have lost control of the narrative.

        1. All of a sudden everybody who was saying that controlling immigration was worse than Nazism are celebrating that migrant numbers are going down. So now less migration is supposed to be a good thing. Until the need to cover up the current scandal passes. Then it will be back to yay for unlimited migration.

    1. feminism–>islam

There’s a psych phenomenon going on there that’d be hilarious if it were happening somewhere else.

Feminism—> eliminated every testosterone-mediated trait from men in their peer group—> sexual frustration but can’t admit the reason—> unwittingly drawn to the most vile, extreme iteration of the thing they’ve made taboo in their own peer group: domination by men.

It’s what happens when you don’t deal with your shadow, right?

      1. I’ve never heard this interpretation before but wow. It sounds very possible. I need to think about this some more but the strategy of “let’s surround ourselves with men who are likely to rape us” is definitely there. It’s like that old joke where a Catholic nun says, “For the past 3 days, every time I cross the park, I get raped.” “So what are you going to do??” “Cross the park twice a day.”

          1. I mean, if I were stuck with a dating pool of men who can’t make an executive decision about what restaurant to go to on a date, or who drives the car to get there… I’d probably have dark fantasies about swarthy foreign men who treat women like property too. That’s got to be frustrating, and when you’re unhappy with a situation, but you’re not allowed to admit it or talk about it… weird shite happens.

      2. I’ve read something similar explaining why young people in the west are converting to Islam. The idea is that modernity is tough on the psyche, the “freedom” to do anything you choose to is not really a freedom, it instead leads to paralysis, and loss of meaning and purpose. Here comes a religion that has so many detailed rules about every single aspect of your life, right down to how to wash yourself. So it comes as a sort of relief to someone exhausted from all the choices available to them. Finally they can stop thinking and blindly follow a set of rules. It’s like a burden that has been lifted.

The western churches’ response to this disillusionment has been to liberalize the church even more, make it more accessible to young people, relax their rules. Which is exactly the wrong thing to do. That’ll never work. What people need is more structure, not less.
