In a way, I do envy the people who are experiencing tribal joys around the election. To go into raptures over a candidate together with everybody “on your side” must be pleasant.
But then I think nah, I’d rather have my brain all to myself and enjoy it in a lonesome fashion.
Don’t get me wrong, I could be plenty tribal. Just not over the choices we’ve been given.

I’m not part of either tribe myself, I’m a registered Independent who skews conservative. The tribalism is why I registered as an independent, I’m sick of how every 4 years people lose their minds and think the next president is the second coming of Hitler or Mao. Life goes on for most people, local politics is more relevant for people than national elections. I’ll vote for Cthulhu again:

Probably some kind of deep reflection of my family’s culture, but I’m like you– indy leaning right– and the rest of the family is an even split between honest republicans, and people who registered democrat in order to vote in the primaries that mattered most, locally.

Being able to change your mind is a rare and wonderful capacity.
I’m willing to change mine any day, as new information comes in.

Actually, its quite nice. Generally speaking we have been encouraged (with either jail-time or being fired) to go against our people and cultures. This is one of the few times in the last few decades where Americans can and have actually banded together as a tribe once more.
It is incredibly annoying to have the government and media endlessly telling us we must be diverse, that we must accept endless numbers of foreigners into our homes. This has been one of the few times in my life where large numbers of my people have gathered together to tell the elites to eat dirt. It is incredibly satisfying.
Now that being said, I do wish we had better leaders to rally around. I do like Trump, but he is only one man and not exactly a paragon of virtue. Imagine what we could do with a leader like Gaston (from Beauty and the Beast.) We would have banded together and tossed those wicked parasites out of DC by now. Alas there has been no men of action who have stepped up to pick up the banners to led from the front.
Now all that being said, I don’t hold you to any fault for wanting to stay separate. Its just as someone who has grown up in this environment my entire life our so called leaders have done their best to shatter my people and our cultures. In my lifetime, this is the first time there has been any real organized resistance to them. So of course its extremely exciting.
