The basic principle of American life – which is that large numbers of people should stoically accept all sorts of hassle and inconvenience to accommodate one unusual person – is incomprehensible to me. I’d say one unusual person should accommodate a crowd but that makes me un-American.

Mill promotes the Libertarian viewpoint. He qualifies as a Utilitarian proponent. Mill celebrates diversity, rejects coercion of opinions, and champions the positive effects of liberty on both individuals and society.

Au contraire! In practical terms, Americans traditionally treat the Constitution (and to a lesser extent the Declaration of Indpedence) as Holy Texts.
They obsess over the original meaning and pour over them, including punctuation and capitalization looking for shades of meaning (that were probably not there in the beginning).

Holy texts? Ya mean like the Holy bible? Bunk. Holy just a religious term of rhetoric. What makes the T’NaCH object sacred? Holy, a term which stems directly from the Torah. Translations do not have legs and feet unto themselves alone. The term ברית, first encountered in the 1st word of the Torah, בראשית\ברית אש, (words within words, a concept known as רמז\hint in Hebrew), does not correctly translate to the word “covenant”. Why?
For the exact same reason Goyim addicted to their silly bible translations do not know how the Torah defines Holy; these same Goyim do not know how the Torah defines the term Brit. Why?

A person who swears a Torah oath swears this oath from the Name Spirit which lives within his oath brit heart & a Torah attribute of mercy revealed to Moshe at Horev 40 days following the sin of the Golden Calf. Name and some dedicated specific 13 attribute of mercy revelation from HaShem passing before Moshe and declaring the “sacred” attributes of HaShem HaShem El Mercy and Grace, long suffering great wisdom which discerns like from like and truth etc etc etc.
This swearing such an oath brit absolutely requires this most essential quality known as שם ומלכות\Name and Kingship. But Xtian rhetoric just hops on the word king, like the prophet Samuel who anointed both Shaul and David as king! The fail to base this Torah commandment of Moshiach upon some specific Torah commandment which Torah common law so fundamentally and absolutely requires.
So absolutely not! Americans simply cannot and do not treat the Constitution as a Holy Text.

The utter failure to grasp that time oriented mitzvot, apply equally to Rabbinic commandments when a person employs those rabbinic commandments at a moment of national threats or crisis to sanctify the Name לשמה. This failure to understand the expansive nature of tohor time oriented commandments, like as did the B’hag, resulted in a boxed in type of ghetto thinking which limits the Torah commandments strictly and only to positive and negative תרי”ג commandments! A completely טיפש פשט stupidity comparable to the Xtian avoda zarah which preaches that God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh.
