Third-grade Social Studies

The teacher in third-grade social studies class:

“Children, there’s going to be a presidential election soon. One candidate is Kamala Harris.”

Children: “Boo!”

Teacher: “Another candidate is Donald Trump.”

Children: “Yay!”

The teacher didn’t reveal her support for either candidate. I asked. I’m glad because I despise teachers who inflict their politics on students.

    1. I remember doing “elections” at my (protestant church) school– we dropped little paper ballots in boxes. I think it was Bush v Dukakis. There were like three Dukakis votes in the entire school and they were probably just being contrarian. People willing to send their kids to church-affiliated private schools skew heavily republican 😉

  1. I remember doing one of these mock elections in my fourth grade classroom during the 1996 election season.

    I voted for Ross Perot.

Even 10-year-old me hated partisanship, it seems.
