I don’t know whether it’s because today I
– have been up since 4:30
– gave a talk and taught two classes
-translated a 4-page document
-filed two reports at work
-did my German exercises
-graded student assignments
-drove to St Louis in shitty traffic
-drove back from St Louis in shittier traffic
-cooked sea bass
and I’m now wiped out and seeing things that are not there but I went to look at the news and it’s all full of Trump being worse than Hitler all over again, and are we back in 2017 or is this really really funny?
I didn’t know it would get to the point where “Hitler” would sound hilarious.
It is very very funny. 😀
Not the part where the drug-addled boomers believe it because they’re the only ones who still watch TV.
But the part where that’s the only thing they’ve got left in the campaign arsenal.
Well, what else do we have?
I dunno. Call him Hitler?

My sibling, a registered Democrat, has been receiving vaguely threatening text messages from the campaign:
“You don’t want to be responsible for letting Hitler back into the White House, do you?”
“What would your neighbors think, if they knew you LET HIM WIN?”
(This is truly hilarious if you have any inkling what a passel of rednecks inhabit the neighborhood)
I am registered independent, and so far, the strategy for winning hearts and minds among Dems seems to be: send 400 emails a week and use up people’s free email storage allowance. I have never been so deluged with trash in my inbox. Every dang one of them claiming to be from Walz, Harris, Obama, Oprah, or even Liz Cheney (shudders).

Same here, I keep getting these damn emails and I’m an Independent. I won’t vote for Kamala anyways, all this does is annoy people. I’ve been a political independent for many years, I’ve also voted for Cthulhu in the last four elections 😂 But seriously, being a political independent is a perfectly valid option since both parties and their followers have lost their minds

My entire family is somewhere in the rightish, libertarianish camp, philosophically. But we are party agnostic, and registration can vary by year. I’ve been registered independent for years because I can’t be bothered to change it. Other family members switch frequently between Dem and Rep depending on what’s going on in the local primaries– usually Dem, because their primaries are more likely to produce a real turd running for school board, that everybody needs to go vote against. But occasionally, it’ll be the other way around: somebody we know, who’s solid, is running for mayor or city council or something, so we all go switch affiliation to whatever party they’re running under, in order to vote for them. My parents have a long history of being heretical Democrats, because when they were young, whoever won the D primary for a local office, would win the office. There was no opposition. So you effectively could not vote in local elections as a Republican or Independent.

I’m a registered Democrat but in the last election I responded to every message from the Democrats cheerfully informing them that I’m voting for President Trump, so they buzzed off. Now all I get are messages from Steve Scalise. They are infrequent, so I’m not bothered.

For those not following the news, it’s not Democrats calling Trump Hitler. It was John Kelly, Trump’s Chief of Staff, who lost a child defending this country, who went on the record to say that Trump admired Hitler and said he would like to have his generals.
So, no you’re not crazy. People who know Trump are just putting matters on the record, so the country can make a right choice. No matter what we decide, we won’t say we weren’t warned.

Exactly. That’s the stuff I saw, including Kamala’s statement. Then people come here and tell me that Democrats aren’t saying Trump is Hitler when we have heard them bang on and on for a decade about how he is Hitler.
I work in academia. I don’t need to be gaslit outside of work because I get enough of it during the workday.

I do wonder, some days, how much of that is willful ignorance, and how much it simply reflects the deliberate and successful silo-ization of info sources on the internet. It seems at least possible that people like my inlaws and these clueless trolls, really do believe what they are saying, *because their internet feed never shows them anything that might contradict it*.
We can see it, because our personal metrics have filed us in the “hopeless wretches” category, so rather than withhold info from us to keep us loyal (a lost cause), they instead limit other people’s ability to see what we post.

I have no idea who this John Kelly is. What I’m reporting is an avalanche of media reports and posts by Dems once again picking up the “Trump is Hitler” meme.
I would appreciate people not telling me what I meant to say. I always say exactly what I mean.

And as dozens of people have pointed out before me, he supposedly heard Trump say this *four years* ago, but only just now, two weeks before an election, decided to tell anybody about it.
If the exact same thing happened to your candidate you’d be crying foul. But because it dings your bias bell, you eat it up.

I don’t even know why it’s supposed to be such a shocking comment whether it happened or not. Hitler did have very talented generals. Very bad people can be very talented. Fidel Castro, for example was very smart and mega charismatic. And a total bastard.
So I’m not understanding this particular scandal on any level. It’s all deeply pathetic.

What do they have that’s not pathetic…. a pathetic candidate with a pathetic record from a pathetic administration with a pathetic non-platform…
Pathetic is their brand. At least they’re consistent.

He said “Hitler”, allegedly. And that makes him Hitler.
They don’t need any logic, and they don’t want it either. Logic is racist.

We are daily shiftng between “he moved the embassy to Jerusalem, what a Jew-loving bastard” and “he said Hitler, what a Jew-hating bastard.”
It would be expecting too much to hope that they’d just figure out what they are trying to say and stick with it.

Nah, just reminding Clarissa & myself about who John Kelly is. There was a lot of churn with Trump. And a lot of people who had “set the hair on fire” revelations they conveniently push to promote books.
I’m very checked out. I’m not looking at texts for the people running to represent my district, or the endless amendments. And I get ALL the Democratic and Republican ones and the flyers.
Volunteer for one organization decades ago or share a family cell phone plan and you get everything in every mailbox, and message app.
I didn’t watch the debates. I checked out of the VP one right after the Iran question.
I really enjoy having molars, reasonable BP, and a healthy liver, and I’ve already had to talk down way too many people from free associating into angry spiral panics this last four weeks.
