Denying reality and trying to live in a fantasy is always a mistake. But the problem is that we have convinced ourselves that words can change reality, so we operate with magic incantations, hoping they would change what actually exists.

There hasn’t been any serious analysis about Russia in SA since the USSR collapsed, and most people have simply maintained their historic positions. Now, we have politicians arguing that if people want to support Russia because they supported the USSR, they can just as well support Ukraine since it was also part of the USSR.

It’s a waste of time because the war ends when Russia decides to end it. And Russia didn’t accept land concessions of the Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk. Why would Russia stop now?
But yes, Ukrainians want the war to end. They never wanted it to begin in the first place. Problem is, Russia is not motivated to end it.
