Somewhat adjacent to this, it’s such a weird thing when people record themselves crying. Does anyone get a really icky feel when people do this?

I think they are talking to themselves in the mirror. No-one else is present. Other people only exist, albeit as a flickering shadow of a person, as their semi-regular “friend” in the comments.
Perhaps that is why they feel so outraged when a “private” performance goes viral among people who have cause to dislike them

Performative crying on social media is repellant and weird, no matter the context. I guess the audiences they’re playing to like watching others enact weepy personas of themselves.
