Avalanche of Visitors

We had an avalanche of visitors yesterday on the blog. Thousands and thousands more than normally. All from the US, so I’m guessing not bots. Does anybody know why? Were we linked somewhere?

It’s weird.

  1. The heck? Thousands of visitors and yet almost none of them left any comments. How truly bizarre.

I went back and looked, and the only post I saw that might have attracted traffic was the one about Q&A Daniel Penny and Joy. If lots of people were searching that topic, its possible your blog might have shown up for some of them at least. The others weren’t exactly big news ticket items, where as that one was.

Can your analytics show which posts got the visitors or just the number by day?

    1. Strangely, this short post on the Trump-Harris debate shows up as suddenly massively popular:

      Who Lost the Debate?

Are there people who are still waiting for the election to happen? Given that the most popular Google search on the day of the election was “did Biden withdraw”, I’m not even surprised.

  2. Is the traffic time-stamped? If it was during the night in the US, it can be Chinese servers using US VPNs/proxies — it was a kind of game to track and count the number of (attempted) accesses to computers on the floor I worked on at MIT.

How went your sauerkraut, mine is, excellent with pastrami on rye. And given the season, and being mostly an oatmeal savage, finally made shortbread today, takes a couple of weeks for the flavour to develop ;-D

  3. I posted a link to one of your posts a few days ago on reddit. It was about the canadian town that was fined for not displaying the pride flag. People liked that post so I imagine some of them visited your blog.

      1. I didn’t link to the post you mentioned though (Who lost the debate). I linked to a different post. So mystery only partially solved.
