A Dinner in Spain

And this is our sumptuous dinner at the castle:

After years of trips to Spain, I still haven’t figured out how to get fed around here. We’ve gone to great lengths to find food today, and failed abjectly.

So….. is that what the castle offers or did you have to buy that on your own?

Is this a posada? Don’t they offer meals?

    I confuse…..

    1. There’s no food other than these little jars at the castle for many, many kilometers. We drove into town but one restaurant had no food until 10 pm, another closed for vacation, the third had food that looked like a health hazard. We asked local people what they recommend and they say we can always pick something up at the gas station.

We’ll be in Madrid tomorrow, and I have some hope for a hot meal there.

      1. It only costs €70 to stay at the castle, by the way. It’s off-season and not much to do around here in winter. There’s a vineyard and wine tasting in the summer, so it gets more fun.

      1. Funny. 😃😃😃

I’ve had it with the hand gesture drama since people were persecuted for imaginary Nazi hand gestures during George Floyd.

This isn’t about Musk. Anybody can be filmed or photographed in a way that shows this or that hand gesture. How is it that people don’t understand this is coming for them in the nearest future if we don’t all collectively stop now?

        1. If you watch the video, it’s pretty clear that Musk is doing the Nazi salute and doing it intentionally. He wasn’t filmed at an unfortunate angle. The thing is, Musk is a known internet troll, he does outrageous things all the time to get reactions. Everyone throwing a fit about it is exactly what he wanted to achieve.

            1. I’ve never seen other politicians starting with their arms close to the body and then extending it suddenly outwards. Other people who get photos that look like the Nazi salute are usually waving awkwardly down at people from a stage.

But I’m not worked up about it. I think Musk is just trolling people.

BTW, I am surprised that you would be inclined to defend Musk. I’d say he’s a poster child for neoliberal fluidity.

              1. I don’t like Musk at all. His Neuralink idea freaks me out. But this isn’t me defending him. It’s me defending me because it’s very easy to ascribe meanings to whatever gestures, facial expressions or movements any of us have made.

A Nazi gesture becomes such not when you move in a certain way but when you purposefully make it so. It’s nonsensical to make a Nazi gesture and deny it because then it’s not a Nazi gesture. The whole point is to make it known you are doing it. The power of the gesture lies in the knowledge.

If you _listen_ as well, it’s clear he’s a) high as a kite (maxed out on ketamine probably which not. a. good. thing. ) and b) made a ‘my heart goes out to you’ that involved extending his arm.

I’m so sick of these bad faith arguments. My automatic assumption now is that anytime I hear info from a left/liberal source I assume that malicious lying is going on….

Dems will lose more people that they’ll gain with this ‘nazi salute’ shtich which is a shame because there is a _lot_ wrong with Musk and his chummy relationship with the administration.

            1. Literally, nobody on the left has had any objections to Neuralink. Instead, they are having vapors over Nazi gestures, again and again and again. They have become a one-pony show, and that poor pony is going in circles.

              1. What Macron is doing here looks more “Nazi” than what Musk did:

But actual Nazism isn’t covert, coded, hidden, and in need of deciphering. It’s a testament to the leftist conditioning that we have collectively bought into the utterly unsubstantiated theory of unconscious biases and hidden messages. In this way of thinking, everybody is guilty unless experts pronounce one healthy / acceptable. People gleefully hound whoever was declared the Nazi / racist / something-phobe of the moment, utterly oblivious that tomorrow they will be so hounded.

  2. If you watch the video, it’s pretty clear that Musk is NOT doing the Nazi salute.

It’s a put-up job and very badly done. If you had watched the video, you would have seen that the extended arm is preceded by Musk putting his hand on his heart and then reaching out to all the people he loves.

NO Nazi salute at all, then, and shame on all those who are manipulating easily manipulatable images off of videos in a cut-and-paste hatchet job that rightly deserves a defamation trial.

  3. We fell for it again. It wasn’t for “criticizing” musk. Unless you’re a celebrity newscaster, there’s no way a news outlet will allow their junior reporter to use profane language on a public platform. She’s conducting herself like an emotionally incontinent teenager, not a reporter.
