I don’t know about “everything” because that’s a little grandiose but this is the perfect writing strategy. As I always say, don’t sit down to write a book. Sit down to write one sentence about a very specific thing.
I’m a weird writer then, I write fiction which I post on Wattpad and my friend’s forum. I’m very streaky when it comes to writing, I can go months without writing anything due to lack of inspiration but if I’m inspired I can go and write all day.
In January I got struck by lightning with inspiration and already completed two short novels using pen and paper and am working on the third novel in a trilogy, I finished uploading the first one and am posting a chapter a day for the second one. I didn’t consciously set out to write one day, I got struck by lightning and all the stories were fully formed in my head. I’m just a conduit right now, it’s a great feeling
I really only meant scholarly writing. I have no idea how it works for people with an artistic gift. I’m sure you are right and creative writing is a lot more connected to inspiration and its unpredictable fluctuations.
I thought you were talking about any sort of writing, when I was in college I was a lot more precise with my academic writing. I guess with artistically inclined people, we need inspiration and maybe an open mind, I can’t write if I don’t have inspiration. I’m enjoying the wave, I have nothing but time until I get the all clear from my doctor to go back to work

Starting is the hard part. Whatever gets you past “start” is a win.
