My daughter is way too young to be interested. She only just turned 9. I don’t think I could explain to her why those weird people are acting so weirdly.
But I remember the movie, yes. That wife was a bitch harpy from hell. Is there a person living who didn’t detest her with every fiber of their being?
Sad disordered lives of trashy, horrible people. Great acting from Williams, though. And a few good jokes.
Seriously, did anybody ever not despise that mother? The screenwriter must have really hated women.
“That wife was a bitch harpy from hell”
Sloppy screenwriting… the whole point of the movie was to get Robin Williams dressed up like an old lady and they wanted to get to that as quickly as possible. I can imagine that being married to the RW character would be hell but they didn’t want to show that because they needed to keep his chaos sympathetic so they have her going mental and kicking him without any real cause.
That said, it was easily RW’s best comic performance and that turned what was probably meant as a throwaway movie into something that people still remember.
RW’s best dramatic performance was of course One Hour Photo…

You’d be surprised; I loved this movie around that age, and so did many of my peers. Does not necessarily mean we fully understood it.
