The Iran Manipulation

This sentence is the perfect example of liberal manipulation:

It starts with the favorite liberal idea that any disagreement with the progressivist agenda is rooted in hatred. This gets to such a ludicrous point that not wanting war becomes labeled hate. Yes, pacifists are such a hateful bunch. Totally makes sense. I’m clearly burning with hatred for Jews, of whom I am one, if I don’t want my country to go to war.

Then there’s the idea that not wanting the US to go to war with Iran means you are defending the country’s regime. That one can despise a regime—like I despise the regime in Mexico, for example—and be simultaneously opposed to dropping bombs on Mexico City doesn’t seem to occur to these people. I’m not even talking about the more complex idea of respecting national sovereignty. Mexico (Russia, Iran, North Korea) should be as nutty as they wish within their national borders. Dropping bombs on people’s heads because you don’t appreciate their customs leaves us with no argument to explain why those who disapprove of our culture shouldn’t drop bombs on us. We live in a large and complicated world. People differ greatly from each other. Are we planning to murder everybody who disagrees with the readers of the New York Times? Because that doesn’t sound like a plan filled with love and tolerance.

This brings us to the argument about women’s hair. You know a liberal by an intense preoccupation with hair. They bring up hair way more often than is justified by any form of logic and reason. But the idea that it’s ok to invade in order to dictate to people far, far away what they should do with their hair is very cuckoo. I have no clue whether the majority of Iranian women is pro or anti-hijab. I can safely assume, however, that they are very pro-staying alive. “Yes, they are now dead but at least nobody is forcing them to wear a hijab” does not sound like a great tradeoff.

I have also noticed that the people we invade with the purpose of improving their lives always end up hating us. Look at Latin America in the aftermath of the Cold War. They hate us. We were trying to save them from socialism, and I deeply hate socialism. I hate the burqa, too. But I’m not ready to say, “let’s go murder some people to prevent them from doing these things I dislike.”

I despise the Iranian mullahs. I believe that they are total garbage. But guess what? I’m pretty confident that if the mullahs knew about my existence, they wouldn’t be huge fans of me either. What’s next? Might makes right? Whoever has the military capacity to murder everybody else should go and do it?

  1. “not wanting the US to go to war with Iran”

Everything I’ve read and heard (and a few Iranians I’ve spoken to) indicate that most Iranians hate the mullahs and I think it would be wonderful if they could manage to topple them on their own.

But if they can’t… I absolutely do not want the US doing it “for” them much less doing it for Israel or so that Netanyahu can stay out of jail… just give him a pardon and a few vacation houses to retire in already. It will be cheaper and easier and safer for all concerned since the Israelis are completely unable to get his crooked warmongering ass out of office on their own….

Good news is probably Trump saying he’ll decide in ‘two weeks’ because that seems to Trumpese for “I’m not going to do anything”.

    1. Absolutely. If the people of Iran come together and decide to change the situation in their country, yippee. But even if 98% of Iranians really want that, they will not love us for coming in and bombing out their cities. People don’t tend to respond well to that kind of thing.

I do hope you are right and Trump will abstain. I really, really hope so.

  2. Yes, starting to see this psyops on social media to justify military action against Iran. The parallels with Iraq are basically the same.

Thankfully I think we’re much better trained at detecting this BS garbage.

    1. Yes, they don’t even do us the courtesy of coming up with something a bit more inventive than Iraq’s WMD. They must think we are completely stupid.

  3. What is the status of The Big Beautiful Bill, btw? I have a sneaky feeling senate republicans are holding it hostage so Trump continues on his path towards war with Iran.

That bill increases immigration enforcement funding by 80x and that alone can solve a LOT of our problems. Everything is downstream to this issue.

    1. I also believe that serious immigration enforcement is the #1 issue. But I mean the kind that includes mass deportations. Everybody that the Biden administration dragged in needs to go. If we could only turn away from the Iran situation and concentrate on that.

      1. Republicans have the presidency, the house, and the senate. They haven’t passed a single bill yet, leaving Trump to get things done by executive orders, which will be undone by the next president. Massie and Rand Paul are being “principled” about the SPENDING but jesus christ, as a nation you can survive financial hardships but you can’t survive mass immigration. They’re thinking like dumb libertarians about this issue and it’s infuriating.

But I mean the kind that includes mass deportations.

From what I understand that’s exactly what this bill funds. Mass deportations is a huge logistical operation and needs commensurate funding to carry out.

        1. A libertarian will always ultimately revert to open borders. They can make a sincere effort to understand but deep inside their hearts they will always cringe at the idea of a government controlling national borders. It’s their foundational belief.

The number of utterly useless R members of Congress is staggering.
