What’s the number on your AC today?

There will be absolutely no guilt-tripping whatever the number is. The AC is sacred.

  1. 77. Outside it was 90. I like feeling refreshed when I walk in not like I’m in a meat locker. I’d love to sleep in colder air but I am frugal.

        1. I know! In Spain last year I spent a lot of time standing next to refrigerators in stores, looking mysterious and sticking my upper torso in them on regular occasions.

  2. I have no idea my AC has not worked since 16 June with 10 days that have been 100+ for the high temperature of the day so far. It has been a real struggle to find someone within 150 miles of me that will replace it. I think I have found someone that is only 190 miles away that will do the job and has communicated with me using email. That has been one of the problems, ‘businesses’ don’t want to do business with anyone that does not have a telephone.

  3. No need in Oregon’s Cool, Green Vacationland. Ambient temperature in mid-70s with low humidity and 15 mph westerlies.

  4. 70 degrees in my bedroom. Tbh I want it colder but I’m sharing a room with my kids (on vacation) and they complain they’re cold. No idea about the rest of the house but I’m at my parents beach house so whatever they keep it at :).

  5. 78. Would rather just turn the damn thing off, but it’s a slab house, so we go by the humidity meter: we shoot for the highest temp that keeps the house at 60% humidity or under, so as not to grow mold or get condensation on the floors. Sometimes we can get away with 80. I’m contemplating a high-capacity dehumidifier…

    1. –It’s a freakishly fine balance. I like the heat. But I *require* some humidity– so it has to run 60% for the good of the house. But I need it above, like, 55% or my nose bleeds.

  6. Wow. I guess I’m an outlier. We keep our place much cooler than anybody else it seems! I like hot weather but only outdoors. (And I can happily sit in even 90 degree weather if I have a cool drink or a body of water near me.) But when I come inside, I like it cool. During the day, we keep it at 68/69 and when we sleep, 62 (and if we can get it lower, we do). What’s your number Clarissa?

    1. We are at 71 but that’s only because it’s a compromise. I’d live at 63°F happily all year but even at 71°F my husband and daughter start asking for heated blankets and pulling on sweaters.

So I’m emotionally and imaginatively in your camp.

  7. It’s 15 C here because it’s mid winter. My relatives are escaping to other parts of the country where it is still over 20 C in winter.
