Not Improving

The economy is not improving. Is anybody noticing any improvement because I’m definitely not? We went by the grocery store today, and it was hard not to laugh at the cash register to see what $57 bought us. Some fruit, some veg, a couple of boursin cheeses, barely anything else. No meat, no fish. It’s not supposed to be this way. In Spain I fed myself for a week on €80, and I was on vacation so in “I’m going to treat myself” mode.

That’s the biggest issue. People’s lives aren’t getting easier economically. I don’t know what needs to happen to change it but whatever it is, clearly isn’t happening.

  1. Not improving? Have you seen the epic memes posted by official government social media accounts? Alongside braindead trump cultists retweeting “The official DHS account posted ___ and you’re blackpilling?”

    1. Yep. The economy won 2024. The economy will win in 2026. Not foreign policy. Not fake “peace deals.” People want affordability and an end to mass migration. Where are deportations? Where are clear, tangible results?

  3. yeah. Groceries still expensive. Our income hasn’t gone up. House prices haven’t come down.

Price of used cars has come down at least a little. They were ridiculous this time last year, actually reasonable now. At least until tax return season.

But yeah, waiting for the break. It’s not here yet. Keep hoping.

    1. Maybe there’s hope? House prices here are coming down a little bit from the ridiculous to to the out of reach.

We have the dubious honor of one of the highest gas prices in the country thanks to our gas taxes and carbon offsets but at least I came home with a weeks groceries for under $150 and a Costco trip under $300 for the first time in two years. This week was a big list but it was at least $70 less than it would have been a year ago and every little bit helps.

  4. It has gotten worse actually. The only economic metric that has improved is the stock market; if you have investments there you’re doing really well. But that’s all dependent on the AI bubble to keep on expanding.

    1. True. We are studiously repeating Democrats’ mistakes and on top of that are making little effort to get out the vote or address the voters on issues that are meaningful to them.

      1. Well Kid, remember a couple of months ago when some of us were fearing another period of stagflation. I saw it in much of the 70’s and early 80’s and it was truly a bitch for the average citizens. My wife and I struggled through it, but many others, friends and neighbours, lost everything included their homes as interest rates climbed up to 19%.

Biden’s “let’s all give everybody free money” coupled with “green” horseshit high energy pricing created a problem, but the current childish international tariff happy horseshit about “all of us are now going to get rich because our crooked neighbors have been stealing our wealth” is very likely going to produce an international crisis. To be blunt, the supposed “Golden Era” of tariff protectionism only benefitted the robber captitalists, it led to social unrest and desperate misery for almost everybody else. History might not repeat, but it sure as hell rhymes.
