The problem here is not spelling or handwriting. It’s that the kids know mommy is wounded and work hard to anaesthesize her wound.

A curious book came out today. It was written by Evan Barker, a one-time Democrat fundraiser who grew deeply disillusioned with the Democratic Party and decided to write about this experience. The book is titled Nothing Left.
Since the book only just came out, I haven’t had time to finish it, but I wanted to share a couple of funny quotes. This is my favorite so far:
Older white liberal women love donating to anything related to abortion.
And one more:
Bernie [Sanders] doesn’t care about people as individuals. He only cares about them as concepts.
I’ll share more as I go along.

Oh, this is a good one. I apologize for the sign, and I’ll remove it tomorrow. Yes, I guess it was part of the new template for some confusing reason.
But if such a free book did exist, what would you guys like me to write it about? On which topic have I been so reticent that people would like to see me write a small book about it?

This is extremely brave. People who say that she is doing it for money are morons. How much money would you accept to go to Kharkiv? There is no amount I would accept. It’s too dangerous. I’m scared. Loomer is not exactly starving, so taking on this amount of risk for money makes no sense.
She could have gone to any part of Ukraine. It’s a large country, but to go to Kharkiv is an act of great bravery. Again, if it were just for money, she could go to Lviv, where it’s mostly safe, collect her fee and scamper.
The cat suddenly started making jerky movements with one of her hind paws. We began to analyze and overanalyze, consulting books, watching YouTube videos, googling and following the animal around better to observe this unusual behavior.
“What is she trying to tell us?” we kept asking. “What does this mean in cat language?”
It took forever to notice that she had a bit of see-through sticky tape on her paw that she was trying to remove in this way.
On the positive side, from my new book about cat behavior, I found out that many of the things the cat does that bother me are an expression of her profound love for me. I am a lot more reconciled to them now.
Another example of what I discussed in the previous post:
When my Dad was in hospice, during the Covid bullshit, I was once stopped by a doctor in the hallway who berated me for my mask not completely covering my nose, for a solid two minutes. . .
There’s not a day that goes by, that I don’t think about tracking that shithead down, and destroying him.
For the doctor to berate her “for a solid two minutes,” she had to stand there listening to him berate her for that period of time. If she decided to stand there and listen meekly to something that she found unwelcome, that is completely on her.
The story is probably completely fake, but please note that an adult person thinks that this is a cute anecdote to post about herself. People invent stories that portray them as passive and weak because they believe that this will enhance their social image.
In the summer before college his school announced that all students had to be boosted, no exemptions of any kind. We fought the vaxx mandate to no avail. He was desperate to go to school and have a normal life. He had applied early decision and had no other options at that point. The school said he needed to get the shot to āavoid long covidā and treated us badly during our exchanges about exemptions. He finally got the shot. His choice not mine. He felt very tired for weeks. He was chronically ill and bed bound within 6 months of the shot and is still very ill today. We now have names for his illness – MCAS, POTS , chronic fatigue syndrome, and he has damage to his right iliac vein. He has not been able to finishĀ college within 4 years, his college years were riddled with illness, we have been bounced around the medical community and charged thousands of dollars but given few answers.
I feel bad for these people, but there were tons of colleges that did not require a COVID shot. They were invariably a lot less expensive than the ones that did require it. One absolutely could go to college and have a normal life without any shots and most definitely without any boosters.
My college, for example, did not require the vax either from students or from faculty. All we had to do to avoid it was to get tested weekly on campus. It was nothing. Nobody got vaccinated against their will on my campus. I taught 100% in person after the first 10-week-long lockdown with no vax requirement.
The COVID lunacy was terrible, and the people who caused it should suffer consequences. I hate all of that crap with intense passion. But it doesn’t remove agency and personal responsibility. All that the people in the OP needed to do was look around for schools which did not require the COVID shot. They would have been less fancy, that’s true, but that would have been a worthwhile exchange, especially since, as we now know, all of this madness was gone two years later.
“The school treated us badly during our exchanges.” First of all, “our”? How many of you were going to that college? Some moms speak in the first-person plural about themselves and their infants. “It looks like we need a diaper change.” Once they hit adulthood, though, it might be a good idea to quit it with the “we.” Especially since no school is going to discuss the health or the status of a student with his parents because it’s illegal. The answer to why this boy is so lacking in agency is right there in the OP.
If you haven’t been on this blog for long, you probably don’t know that I was Team Reality from the first days of the lockdowns. I fought like a tiger to have a normal life for myself, my child, and my students. That fight would have been easier if more people exercised agency and joined the fight instead of sighing helplessly and doing nothing.
From Reuters:
French police detained a man on Monday after he attacked three women with knives…
The man attacked the three women, who were aged ā 19, 24 and 36, with two kitchen knives, severely wounding two of them…
“It is Allah who commanded me,” the man lying on the floor said.
The motive of the attack remains unknown, [Interior Minister Laurent] Nunez said.https://www.reuters.com/world/french-police-arrest-man-after-knife-attack-paris-2026-07-27/
If you feel like you’ve seen the same report a hundred times, yes, this is a fresh one from today.
This is not the same Muslim terrorist who attacked gays in Berlin yesterday and New Yorkers last week. Nobody has any idea what is motivating them, of course.
So you know how neoliberalism was initially associated with conservatism? Thatcher, Reagan, you know what I’m talking about. But this was always an extremely uncomfortable coexistence. Neoliberalism is a state of permanent revolution. It’s change, disruption, transgression, erasure of all boundaries. You can pretend that this is conservative for about 15 minutes, and after that the liberalism part of neoliberalism starts pulsating in bright neon.
It’s kind of the same with Ukraine. At the start of the 2022 invasion, Democrats claimed Ukraine as their cause. But it’s a very uncomfortable coexistence. Ukranians are white. There is no Ukrainian dead or alive who does not find the idea of women with penises ridiculous. The whole point of the war for Ukraine is highly nationalistic. Ukraine is experiencing a revival of Christianity. There is downright worship of masculinity, ambitiousness, strength, and a can-do attitude. The story of Ukraine in this war is that of a triumph of human ingenuity and exceptional bravery in spite of terrible odds. Ukrainians despise socialism. You see the problem? What I’m describing is a leftist’s curse and a right-winger’s dream.
American liberals turned Ukraine poisonous for conservatives by using it as a cudgel to pursue an impeachment of Trump and, more bizarrely, an immigration amnesty bill. But none of it managed to topple Trump. Democrats started losing interest in Ukraine, especially since a more convenient victim appeared on the horizon. They began to worship Palestinians, moving away from pesky, annoying Ukrainians who were refusing to act like pitiful, pathetic victims. In the ensuing pause, right-wingers recovered their bearings enough to notice… everything that I said before.
Laura Loomer is a symptom of a phenomenon that I’ve been observing for close to a year. One after another, the conservative accounts I follow on X have been saying, “You know what? I’ve kind of been warming up to these Ukrainians.” If you’re not part of the conservative milieu on social media, you wouldn’t have gotten a chance to notice this. Laura Loomer’s conversion to the Ukrainian cause might seem unexpected. But it’s been a long time coming.
At this moment, the number of very right-wing accounts that I follow that write regularly about their support of Ukraine is about three times larger than the number of leftist pro-Ukrainian accounts that I started following in 2022. Initially, 95% of consistently pro-Ukrainian accounts were liberal. This completely changed in the past year or so.
Of course, I feel completely vindicated. I’ve been saying from the start that Ukraine doesn’t work as a leftist cause. One big defect of conservatism is that it’s reactionary. Time and again, it fails to set the agenda but instead reacts to the agenda proposed by its opponents. That’s why it fumbled the ball on Ukraine and engaged in reactionary anti-Ukrainianism under the principle of “if my enemy likes them, I must hate them.” It’s both understandable and obnoxious.
Finally, things are righting themselves. These are great developments.
One of the complaints about motherhood that the narrator of Katixa Agirre’s novel Mothers Don’t makes has to do with taking her baby out for a walk in a stroller. She feels terribly aggrieved by having to do it. There are several pages of intense whining in the book about how the stroller limits her movements and prevents her from spending enough time admiring her appearance in the windows of the shops she passes by.
This is curious to me because taking my baby out in a stroller was the most intensely enjoyable experience of my entire life. I’m eagerly anticipating grandchildren to repeat the experience. It was like meditation times a million. I felt the most intense calm. It was incredible.
This is not to say that I’m not neoliberalized. I might be more neoliberal than Agirre’s character. She’s not doing neoliberalism right, is what I’m saying.
