Drunken Stupor

Since our plane has been delayed (Jewish luck!), I can share funny stories.
Back in grad school, people kept sharing the only bit of knowledge they had about Ukrainians which was that we were all alcoholics. I’m from a completely non-drinking family, so the discussions of “you people drink so much” started getting on my nerves. One day I finally snapped.

“Yes, I was conceived in a drunken stupor,” I said. “This is why I ended up here at Yale. Just to think how much better I could have done were my parents not such hopeless drunks.”

Would “Jewish Luck” be a better name for United Airlines? 🙂

      1. I did not. I just have flown a lot with United lately, and every second flight was delayed.
On a good side – one flight was cancelled, but we were put on an earlier plane and actually got home earlier than we intended.

  2. A drunken stupor is good. The cultural stereotype of me is that I must necessarily be arrogant and believe myself to be of a superior race and status. People pushed this so much that I began to investigate such an option as a way of simplifying my identity — making it easier to manage. It’s better to be what people think you are, rather than what you are, in some ways.
